FOX Herbert - 1896 - 23/11/1896 – Age 51 – Stallman. Holmwood, Hardwick Coal Co., Derbyshire. Fall of side whilst trimming up the side of the roadway, a piece of stone fell and fatally injured him. He died 19th March 1897.

FOXWELL Joseph - 1894 - 09/02/1894 – Age 26 – Collier. Tir-Pentwys, Tir-Pentwys Black Vein Steam Coal Co. Ltd., Pontypool, Monmouth. Run over by trams in the Tillery workings. He and another Collier were engaged taking a skip of coal off a pillar at the side of a road down which a haulier was taking a load of trams. The latter alleges that deceased, in reply to him before he started down this part of the road, stated that they were all clear. Had he been up in his working face he would have been clear on the other side of the rails, there was 3 feet space at the side of the rail and 11 feet lower down, there was a stall road off the heading into which he might have gone out of the way.

FRAME John - 1894 - 12/07/1894 – Age 20 – Stower. Seaton Delaval, Seaton Delaval Coal Co., Seaton Delaval, Northumberland. Inspection made and inquest attended. Deceased was engaged riding stone after a shot had been fired and to facilitate the work he removed a prop causing a fall of roof.
FRAME Peter - 1895 - 11/10/1895 – Age 48 – Miner. Loanhead (coal and ironstone), Shotts Iron Co., Edinburgh. Fall of stone. 2 killed.
FRAME Thomas - 1899 - 09/12/1899 – Age 56 – Miner. Loanhead, Shotts Iron Co. Ltd., Edinburgh. Deceased was taking down and a seam, having a dip of 45 degrees, when a stone estimated to weigh about 1 cwt. fell suddenly from the coal head and struck him on the side, fracturing one of his ribs and puncturing his lung. He did not consider himself seriously injured and remained at work for about seven hours. He died three days afterwards.
FRAMPTON or JOHN D.J. - 1891 - 27/01/1891 – Age 17 - Collier’s boy. Glyn, Glamorgan Colliery Co. Ltd., Llantrissant, Glamorgan. Crushed between the coal on the tram and the roof having, after the journey started, jumped on the rope beside the rider to ride up the incline, using 33 inches per yard.
FRANCE Henry - 1896 - 22/04/1896 – Age 32 - Incline brakesman. Highley, Highley Mining Co. Ltd., Shropshire. While he was lowering a loaded truck from these screens, with his hand on the brake handle, the trucks got off the rails at a crossing and he was crushed against a wharf wall. The crossing was in bad repair.

FRANCH Thomas - 1893 - 15/09/1893 – Age 27 – Collier. Albion, Albion Steam Coal Co. Ltd., Clifynydd, Glamorgan. Fall of roof at face while cutting through a stump of bottom coal. There was room for timbers on each side of the stomp but none were fixed. Upper four feet seam.

FRANCIS David - 1890 - 29/11/1890 – Age 19 – Collier. Dowlais Bedlinog No. 2, Dowlais Iron Co., Gelligaer, Glamorgan. Fall of roof (clift-quar, 20 feet x 4 feet x 6 inches thick) at face between cogs and coal. One prop discharged. Upper 4 foot. Longwall. Francis had worked in a stall three years and according to the Colliery register, his age was 21. 2 killed.
FRANCIS David J. - 1897 - 23/09/1897 – Age 21 – Collier. Moody’s Graigola, Moody Bros. and Co., Glamorgan. Fall of roof at face, rock 12 feet x 18 inches along side of heading where starting a stall. Graigola seam.
FRANCIS Griffith - 1891 - 18/12/1891 – Age 30 – Collier. Plymouth Works, Hill’s Plymouth Co. Ltd., Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan. Fall of roof (clift) 2 foot 6 inches x 2 foot 5 inches x 5.5 inches to nothing, thick at face inside of row of props, 4 foot back. 2 foot 9 inches seam. Long wall.
FRANCIS James - 1896 - 27/01/1896 – Age 33 – Dataller. Black Park, Black Park, Denbigh. Inspection made and inquest attend. A quantity of surface debris fell down the shaft, which acted as a chimney to the underground steam boilers, the same falling on some heated ashes given off from the boilers. The deceased was applying a hose to the ashes when some more debris must have fallen which turned the steam back upon them scalding them so severely that they died of the injuries received. 2 killed.
FRANCIS John (injured) - 1890 - 09/09/1890 – Age 66 – Miner. Prince of Wales (metalliferous), Prince of Wales, St. Mellion, Cornwall. Francis was a tributer engaged in stopping in the back of the 90 level and while in a stooping position a scale of ground, which came out of the side, struck him on the lower part of the back. His injuries were not serious.
FRANCIS John - 1891 - 12/06/1891 – Age 43 – Collier. Albion, Albion Steam Coal Co., Pontypridd, Glamorgan. Fall of roof, at a parting on his heading road 6 yards back. A piece of cliff, 5 foot diameter 6 inches thick in the middle thinning out all round, burst out of the roof, which had been judged safe without further support than that afforded by cogs gob walls and some roadside props. Upper four-feet. Longwall.
FRANCIS John - 1892 - 21/11/1892 – Age 38 – Collier. Wynnstay, Wynnstay Collieries Ltd., Ruabon, Denbigh. Inspection made and inquest attended. After taking a bar out from under the top coal, in order to make the level higher, the deceased commenced to rip down portion of the top coal when it fell to a slip which caught the deceased before he could clear himself.

FRANKLAND Reuben - 1891 - 24/04/1891 – Age 25 – Filler. Rosedale East (ironstone), Carlton Iron Co. Ltd., Pickering, Yorkshire. Severely burnt about his face by setting a powder box on fire. Died on following day. 6.30 am.
FRANKLIN Christoper Anderson - 1899 - 17/07/1899 – Age 35 – Labourer. Fletton East Clay Quarry, Hicks Gardener and Co., Huntingdon. A wagon had left the rails, while ascending the incline going to the clay mill. It was put on again and on being filled the wagon started running back and the slack rope struck the deceased under the chin and killed him.
FRANKLIN Henry - 1899 - 21/09/1899 – Age 53 – Miner. Corsham No. 6 Stone Bath, Stone Firms Ltd., Wiltshire. Fall of roof in his working place. The usual roof bed is not good in this part of the mine and comes down. In this case it split from a clay joint and the other two sides being free it fell away from the fourth and killed him. It was about 8 foot x 6 foot x 11 inches, thinning out to 5 foot on the free sides.
FRANKLIN John - 1899 - 27/05/1899 – Age 54 – Barer. Dunhouse No. 1 Sandstone Quarry, John and Aaron Thompson, North Yorkshire. He was wheeling a barrow load of soil, by the edge of the quarry, when he lost his balance and fell to the bottom of the quarry and was killed.
FRANKS Arthur - 1895 - 08/11/1895 – Age 27 – Collier. Celynen Newport, Abercarne Black Vein Steam Coal Co. Ltd., Monmouth. A sudden fall of roof in the face (2 foot 6 inches x 1 foot 8 inches x 1 foot) from slips, discharged a post which was under it, which struck him severely lacerating his leg and bruising him generally. Pneumonia set in and he died November 21st, 1895.
FRANKS William Thomas - 1892 - 20/07/1892 – Age 24 – Collier. Llanerch, Partridge Jones and Co. Ltd., Pontypool, Monmouth. While lowering an empty tram down a heading (rising 3 inches in the yard) in order to turn it into his stall Road, his foot slipped and the tram ran against him causing slight injuries. He had for years suffered from diabetes and was in a very delicate state of health having only a few days previously resumed work. The doctor deposed that in his opinion death was the result of the accident upon his previous condition of health.

FRATER Ralph - 1898 - 13/05/1898 – Age 45 – Labourer. Dunmore Sandstone Quarry, Baird and Stevenson, Stirling. While a box of debris was being raised by the crane, a chain broke and the debris fell on him. He failed to stand clear as required by Special Rule.
FRAYNE Martin - 1897 - 04/02/1897 – Age 23 – Metalman. Giant’s Hall, Wigan Coal and Iron Co. Ltd., Wigan, Lancashire. Inspection made and inquest attended. The deceased was holding a light for his partner, who was plucking roof down on the level after a shot, when a stone fell upon him from between breaks in the roof crushing the deceased. He succumbed to the injuries received on the 10th.

FRAZER George - 1898 - 01/12/1898 – Age 24 – Miner. South Broadrigg, John Nimmo and Son Ltd., Linlithgow. Deceased, who was taking out the last pillar of a stoop, had holed the coal for a length of 9 feet from a sheering cut by a shot and to a depth of about 2 feet, when it suddenly came away from a lype and fell upon him. No gibs appeared to have been set.

FRAZER Thomas - 1899 - 29/05/1899 – Age 39 – Carpenter. Llwynypia, Glamorgan Coal Co. Ltd., Glamorgan. While repairing a wagon, on a siding, he failed to hear a warning to stand clear as some wagons were being shunted into the same siding. He was knocked down and run over.

FREEMAN Alexander - 1898 - 20/05/1898 – Age 42 - Boiler fireman. Blackston, William Black and Sons Ltd., Renfrew. While starting an unfenced donkey engine, with his foot, it got caught by the flywheel.
FREEMAN Joseph - 1894 - 20/06/1894 – Age 50 – Contractor. Moss, Pearson and Knowles Coal and Iron Co. Ltd., Wigan, Lancashire. Inspection made and inquest attended. The timber on a tram knocked a temporary prop out where deceased and others were fixing new bars to get more height. The men had control of the tram and timber themselves but somehow the timber got on one side and knocked the prop out causing a fall of roof on the deceased.

FREEMAN Thomas - 1890 - 11/10/1890 – Age 16 - Bankhead lad. Woodland, Woodland Coal Co. Ltd., Cockfield, Co. Durham. Broken arm and serious other bruises. He was riding on an engine set, contrary to rules, when he fell off and was dragged a considerable distance. Died on following day.
FREEMAN William Henry (injured) - 1890 - 11/09/1890 – Age 35 – Shaftman. Devon United (metalliferous), Devon United Co., Tavistock, Devon. Whilst descending, a ladder at the 50-fathom level gave way and the men, with the ladder, fell about 6 fathoms sustaining injuries of a severe nature. The board on which the ladder rested first slipped causing the ladder to fall. The men themselves were responsible for keeping the ladder road in repair. 2 injured.

FRENCH Thomas (non-fatal) - 1893 - 17/08/1893 – Age 30 – Roadsman. Bent, Bent Colliery Co. Ltd., Lanarkshire. Fall of stone. 24 days off.
FRESBY William - 1894 - 15/11/1894 – Age 46 – Blacksmith. Shirland, Blackwell Colliery Co., Alfreton, Derbyshire. Deceased was riding in the upcast shaft for the purpose of attending to some repairs and was carrying a long iron bar. This iron bar got wedged into the brickwork of the shaft side as the cage was slowly ascending and while trying to liberate it he fell out of the cage and down the shaft a distance of 60 yards.
FRETSON Samuel - 1895 - 19/11/1895 – Age 34 – Stallman. Langwith, Sheepbridge Coal and Iron Co. Ltd., Derbyshire. Fall of side. Deceased was at work in the heading when some coal burst the face. He was away from work a week and then returned and worked three days. He died 22nd Dec.

FRETWELL Job. - 1896 - 01/01/1896 – Age 59 – Stallman. Wollaton, Wollaton Colliery Co., Nottinghamshire. Deceased scratched his elbow whilst stooping under the coal to do some holing. The injury appeared to be so slight that no notice was taken of it but he died from general paralysis excited by the injury, on 9th September.

FROGGART G. - 1899 - 07/09/1899 – Age 23 – Labourer. Barrow, Barrow Haematite Steel Co., Yorkshire. Whilst a boiler was being blow off he went underneath and was scalded. Died 10th September.

He had holed the coal and withdrawn the sprags in order to let it fall, but as it did not do so at once, he was passing in front of it to get a heavy pick in order to pull it down, when it came away and caught him.

FUDGE William James - 1898 - 02/04/1898 – Age 29 – Filler. Ashton Vale, Ashton Vale Iron Co. Ltd., Somerset. Fall of roof in Engine Plans which was being extended to the dip. It occurred about 25 yards up from the face where he was engaged filling rubbish as in consequence of insufficient timbering.
FULLER Frederick (injured) - 1890 - 29/04/1890 – Age 43 – Miner. Moston Great, Platt Bros. and Co. Ltd., Moston, Lancashire. Injured by roof from a small fault.
FULLER John Thomas - 1898 - 06/06/1898 – Age 23 – Hewer. Bedlington, Doctor Bedlington Coal Co. Ltd., Bedlington, Northumberland. Inquest attended. He had kirved in a broken jud and taken out the sprag. Finding the coal did not come as expected he got a hammer and wedge to bring it down. He accidentally dropped the wedge and when in the act of picking it up the coal fell on him, inflicting injuries from which he died on June 20th.
FULLERTON Robert - 1894 - 05/06/1894 – Age 31 – Engineplaneman. Washington, Washington Coal Co., Washington, Co. Durham. Inspection made. A fall of stone came on to him, caused by a socket on the rope getting fast to a sheave and drawing the props out. The road end arrangements were in good order and it is difficult to understand how the socket became jammed between the sheave and the frame which are made with a view to prevent such an accident.

FULTON James - 1898 - 12/10/1898 – Age 42 - Quarrier. Scabro Sandstone Quarry, William Gill, Co. Down, Ireland. Whilst an empty box was being lowered, by a hand-crane, a tooth in the cog wheel holding the jib beam broke. The jib-beam fell striking the deceased on the head.
