BURNS Michael - 1876 - 19/05/1876 - Miner. Salter and Eskett Park (metalliferous), Salter and Eskett Park Mining Co. Eskett, Cumberland. He and another had been taking ore off from the side of a working when it came away it removes a set of wood which brought a run of shale. He was trapped for 7 hours and when got out, suffocated.

BURTON John - 1876 – 01/05/1876 – Age 60 – Sub-agent. Nant Iago (metalliferous), Nant Iago Mining Co., Montgomeryshire. He was sending some old air pipes up the shaft in a kibble. He appears to have allowed his men to put too many in at a time and it is supposed that the end of one of them caught in and disengaged a roller placed in the incline shaft for the roller came down and crushed his leg as soon as the load had reached that part of the shaft. The injury inflicted was merely a flesh wound but he being in a feeble state at the time of the accident gradually sank and mortification of the limb set in a few days after the accident.

BUTLER W. - 1877 - 24/11/1877 – Age 48 - Pikeman. Grace Mary, New S Minton and Co., Dudley, Worcester. He had removed timber props from under the hanging cut coal and incautiously stepped under it when the whole mass fell and crushed him to death. Thick coal pit.

Stone falling from roof as he was boring a hole in the roof of the immediate level west of the Copse shaft. He and another miner were taking out a middling stump that had been left in the lode and the ground was on the move.
