NORTHAGE James - 1875 - 22/04/1875 – Age 31 – Loader. Riddings, J Oakes and Co., Alfreton, Derbyshire. Fall of bind.

NORTHCOTE Thomas - 1879 - 20/01/1879 – Age 32 - Collier. Prescot, Wigan and Whiston Coal Co. Ltd., Prescot, Lancashire. He was preparing to set a prop under a broken bar when the latter gave way and together with some of the roof fell on him.

NORTHEY Thomas - 1873 - 12/11/1873 – Age 55 - Miner. Creegbrawse and Penkevil (metalliferous), Thomas, Googh and William Buckingham, Kenwyn, Cornwall. Crushed by fall of ground. The timber supporting the ground had been knocked away by a blast and the ground fell away while he and his son were replacing the timber.

NORTON Henry - 1879 - 22/10/1879 – Age 30 - Collier. Alexandra, St. Helens Colliery Co. Ltd., St. Helens, Lancashire. The engineman started the engine the wrong way and the cage was taken up into the pulley when the rope broke and the cage with the men fell to the pit bottom. 7 killed.

NORTON J. - 1876 - 17/06/1876 – Age 32 - Collier. Tynewydd Llynvi, Tondu and Ogmore Coal and Iron Co. Ltd., Bridgend, Glamorgan. Killed by an explosion of gunpowder which took place as he was ramming a hole.

NORTON W. - 1872 - 15/02/1872 – Age 21 - Iron Miner. Hill-Bowling (ironstone), Bowling Iron Co., Bradford, Yorkshire. Fall of roof.

NOTHERS J. - 1876 - 09/09/1876 – Age 46 - Labourer. Sharlston, Sharlston Coal Co., Normanton, Yorkshire. Fell off new pit bank on surface. Died 12th Sept.

NOTT Henry - 1874 - 27/03/1874 – Age 40 – Weigher. Kingswood, Gloucester. Hurt by a truck. Died of his injuries 4th. April.

NOY Elizabeth - 1874 - 01/08/1874 – Age 8 - Tin Dresser. Morvah Consuls (metalliferous), Morvah Consols Mining Co., Morvah, Cornwall. Fell from floor of an engine house to lower one. Female.

NOYE William Henry - 1873 - 03/02/1873 – Age 15 - Miner. Wheal Seton (metalliferous), Wheal Seton Mining Co., Camborne, Cornwall. Fell from 160 fathom level to 170 fathom level while walking on the tramway behind his comrade.

NUGENT W. - 1870 - 23/08/1870 – Age 40 - Collier. Kipps, Robertson and Eddie, Airdrie, Lanarkshire. Fall of roof.

NUNN George - 1876 - 27/04/1876 – Age 15 – Driver. Shildon Lodge, Bolckow Vaughan and Co. Ltd., Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham. Fall of side stone while driving along rollerway.

NUSSEY Thomas - 1873 - 03/10/1873 – Age 30 - Collier. Dodworth, Silkstone and Dodworth Coal and Iron Co., Barnsley, Yorkshire. Fall of roof.

NUTT James - 1878 - 12/01/1878 – Age 55 – Watchman. Elemore, Hetton Coal Co., Fence Houses, Co. Durham. Head struck by one of the horns on the drum he went into engine house a place as stated he had no business to go.

NUTTALL George - 1874 - 22/04/1874 – Age 44 – Coalminer. Outwood, Thomas Fletcher and Sons, Manchester, Lancashire. Burned by explosion of firedamp in five quarter mine. The gas accumulated in consequence of his having disarranged the brattice whilst clearing dirt and it fired on his returning with an open light. Died 1st May.

NUTTALL Isaiah (injured) - 1872 - 04/10/1872 - Collier. Jenny Lind, Baxenden, Lancashire. While following his employment a portion of roof suddenly gave way and caught him. He was extricated in a short time, but he had received sever injuries by being crushed. He was conveyed home and Dr. Byles attended him. Hopes are entertained that he will survive the accident, but he will probably be permanently injured through the severe injuries to his spine. (Accrington Times).

NUTTALL J.T. (injured) - 1879 - 02/09/1879 - Miner. Standhill, Thomas Simpson and Co., Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. Ankle bruised by roof which he had neglected to dress falling.

NUTTALL Josiah - 1873 - 24/09/1873 – Age 28 - Labourer. Victoria, George Hargreaves and Co., Baxenden, Lancashire. Breakage of an endless chain on which he was riding below ground and tubs running back. Died 29th Dec.

NUTTALL Robert - 1870 - 02/12/1870 – Age 11 - Drawer. Trafford, Wigan Coal and Iron Co., Hindley, Lancashire. Fall of roof.

NUTTALL Thomas - 1879 - 30/12/1879 – Carpenter. Dixon Green, Bridgewater Trust, Farnworth, Lancashire. Dropped down and expired while at work.

NUTTALL William - 1874 - 31/08/1874 – Age 63 – Engineman. Birley Vale, Jeffcock Dunn and Co., Sheffield, Yorkshire. Struck by lever of pumping engine which broke in his hand and threw him down.
