HALE Lewis - 1875 - 30/05/1875 – Age 30 - Banksman. Eskett (metalliferous), Eskett Iron Ore Co., Eskett, Cumberland. The explosion of some dynamite which had been left under the bench in the eye in which he was working. He was alone at the time and no evidence could be obtained as to the cause of the explosion. Several witnesses at the inquest deposed there being no detonators with the dynamite.

During the dinner hour she in spite of warnings from other girls persisted in jumping onto the crown wheel of the whim and riding round. At last her leg caught between the wheel and pinion and she died from her injuries. Female.

HALL John - 1872 - 06/07/1872 – Age 20 - Hewer. Penshaw, George Elliott MP, Fence Houses, Durham. Attempting to lower himself down a staple from one seam to another jumped out of cage when near the bottom and was crushed by the framing.

HALL John - 1877 - 04/05/1877 – Age 29 – Pikeman. Homer Hill, Homer Hill Colliery Co., Cradley, Worcester. Injured by fall of roof and top coal gob causing a severe shock to the nervous system on 3rd Apr. Died this day.

HALL John - 1879 - 02/08/1879 – Age 30 – Pikeman. Essington Wood, Darlaston Coal and Iron Co., Bloxwich, Stafford. While thirling an airhead liberated some gas from opposite side and it filling his lamp made it so hot that he dropped it which caused the flame to pass through the gauze and explode the gas burning him severely 26th July. Died this day.

HALL Joseph - 1877 - 05/07/1877- Age 28 - Collier. Llwynpia Steam Coal, Glamorgan Coal Co. Ltd., Pontypridd, Glamorgan. Killed in bottom of shaft attempting to enter the cage after it had been signalled to start.

HALL Joseph James - 1877 - 23/01/1877 – Age 15. Stonehill, Roscow and Lord, Farnworth, Lancashire. Suffocation. The mine became on fire but the inquest could not agree whether it arose from an explosion or blackdamp or the ingition of a brattice cloth. 18 killed.

HALL Lees - 1878 - 14/12/1878 – Age 29 - Miner. Denton Lane, Chamber Colliery Co. Ltd., Chadderton, Lancashire. Roof falling as he was getting coal. Died Oldham Infirmary.

The cause of the breakage was not found as the rope was in good condition.

HARPER G. - 1871 - 16/10/1871 - Miner. Forest, Thomas Checkley, Walsall, Stafford. A slight fall of roof broke his leg which was amputated in the Cottage Hospital. Died this day.

HARPER George - 1870 - 04/11/1870 – Age 40 - Collier. Worsbrough Park, Coopers and Co., Barnsley, Yorkshire. Fall of coal.

HARPER George - 1877 - 16/06/1877 – Age 40 – Stallman. Teversal, Stanton Iron Co., Teversal, Nottingham. He had withdrawn the sprags from under the coals and was trying to get them down when part of it fell on him.

HARPER J.W. - 1873 - 02/05/1873 – Age 12 – Helper. Greenbooth, JA and JH Rawston, Rochdale, Lancashire. Breakage of the sinking pit rope as he was working with his father.

HARPER James - 1871 - 09/02/1871 – Age 49 - Miner. Brinsop Hall, Brinsop Hall Co., Westhoughton, Lancashire. The cage at No.4 pit being drawn over the pulley by the engineman starting the engine the wrong way fell on him where he was seated at the surface.

HARPER James - 1878 - 20/07/1878 – Age 31 – Sinker. Wester, Gartshore J and A Wallace, Kirkintilloch, Ayrshire. Explosion of firedamp. 3 killed.

HARPER Samuel - 1879 - 02/04/1879 – Age 29 – Roadman. Bedwellty, Tredegar Iron Co., Bedwellty, Monmouth. Explosion of firedamp. 6 killed. Died 18th.

HARPER William (injured) - 1879 - 29/03/1878 – Age 46 - Miner. Pendleton, Andrew Knowles and Sons Ltd., Pendleton, Lancashire. Leg broken No.1 Pit Engine Brow. When standing at No.4 level he inadvertently stepped in front of tubs.

HARRIES H. - 1878 - 24/04/1878 – Age 58 - Collier. No.4 Tyra, Cardiff & Swansea Smokeless Steam Coal Ltd., Neath, Glamorgan. Killed by fall of roof.

HARRIES John - 1874 - 21/02/1874 – Age 36 - Labourer. Bryndu, Bryndu Coal and Coke Co., Bridgend, Glamorgan. Killed by an explosion of gas.

HARRIES Robert - 1871 - 28/07/1871 – Age 31 - Collier. Broad Oak, James Banfield, Loughor, Glamorgan. Killed by fall of coal.

HARRIES W. - 1874 - 21/04/1874 – Age 27 - Collier. Gelly-Gaer, Walter Powell, Pontypridd, Glamorgan. Killed by fall of stone.

HARRINGTON Derbyshire. - 1879 - 14/08/1879 – Age 40 - Surface Trammer. Berehaven (metalliferous), Berehaven Mining Co. Ltd., Allihies Co., Cork, Ireland. The giving way of a piece of timber on the tram road viaduct. The timber proved to be decayed.

HARRINGTON James - 1875 - 15/05/1875 – Shaftsman. Berehaven (metalliferous), Berehaven Mining Co. Ltd., Allihies, Co. Cork, Ireland. Failure of a screw as he and others were lifting about 3 tons weight of pumps.
