HUGHES Michael - 1874 - 12/09/1874 – Age 40 - Labourer. Shankstown (ironstone), Eglington Iron Co., Cumnock, Ayrshire. While engaged in making alterations a beam and wall plate fell upon them. 2 killed.

HUGHES Michael - 1877 - 11/10/1877 – Age 24 - Drawer. Pemberton, Jonathan Blundell and Sons, Wigan, Lancashire. Explosion of gas 36 killed.

HUGHES Moses - 1870 - 24/12/1870 – Age 46 – Fireman. Mostyn, Mostyn Colliery Co., Mostyn, Holywell. Fall of roof.

HUGHES Richard - 1871 - 10/04/1871 – Age 21 - Labourer. Mostyn, Mostyn Coal Co., Holywell, Flint. A fall on the surface.

HUGHES Robert - 1875 - 29/04/1875 – Age 20 - Engine stoker, Welsh Slate, Welsh Slate Co., Merionethshire. The men were working on the surface and were supposed to be in a place that was perfectly safe but an enormous mass of overhanging rock gave way crushing them to death and causing the destruction of much valuable machinery. 3 killed.

HUGHES Thomas - 1874 - 28/04/1874 – Age 35 – Fireman. Hafod-y-bwch, Ruabon Coal Co., Ruabon, Denbigh. Suffocated in yard mine while opening an air road next to a fault which had fallen in. 2 killed.

HUGHES Thomas - 1875 - 27/03/1875 – Age 40 – Sinker. Bickershaw, Ackers Whitley and Co. Ltd., Abram, Lancashire. Fell off scaffold in sinking pit.

HUGHES Thomas - 1877 - 19/05/1877 – Age 25 - Collier. Dunraven, Dunraven Coal Co., Treherbert, Glamorgan. Killed by scalding. He incautiously knocked open the boiler manhole when the water inside was above the hole.

HUGHES William - 1875 - 10/12/1875 – Age 31- Hewer. Cambois, Cowpen and North Seaton Coal Co., Blyth, Northumberland. Returned to his place just as shot went off. Coal fell on him.

HUMPHREYS Eb. - 1873 - 11/09/1873 – Age 15 - Miner. Rhymney (ironstone), Rhymney Iron Co., Rhymney, Monmouth. After descending the shaft he crossed the bottom and the next cage came on him. The hitcher should have prevented the boy perpetrating such an outrageous act of disobedience.

HUMPHRIES Thomas - 1878 - 23/08/1878 – Age 36 – Navie. Brackley, Bridgewater Trust, Middle Hulton, Lancashire. A stretcher falling out as another was put in an open cutting for a day eye slope. Died Bolton Infirmary 13th Sept.

HUMPHRIES Thomas - 1879 - 19/06/1878 – Age 18 - Taker-off. Clifton Hall, Andrew Knowles and Sons Ltd., Clifton, Lancashire. Hurt by a tub knocking out a prop and caused some roof to fall.

HUNT Charles - 1873 - 09/12/1873 – Age 58 – Underviewer. Dunston, Sheepbridge Co., Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Suffocated by firedamp whilst exploring old works.

HUNT George - 1872 - 28/03/1872 – Age 15 – Ponydriver. Lovers Lane, John Fletcher and others, Atherton, Lancashire. Explosion of firedamp in 5 Feet mine. The portion of workings situated beyond a fault became foul in consequence of the space for the passage of air being too small and ignition was caused by a shot which blew out the stemming. 27 killed.

HUNT Joseph - 1877 - 10/04/1877 – Age 54 Asst. Banksman. Victoria, Thomas Brocklehurst, Rumworth, Lancashire. Caught by crank in helping to get the fly wheel over the centre.
