BOWKER T - 1870 - 13/10/1870 – Age 15 – Boy. Dunkirk, Dunkirk Co., Dukinfield, Cheshire. Jig chain broken.

BOWLES Thomas - 1876 - 22/08/1876 - Miner. Salter and Eskett No.3 (metalliferous), Salter and Eskett Park Mining Co., Eskett, Lancashire. Was one of four men working in the low bottom of No.3 pit. The cage did not run down so far except for two hours each day to draw metal. The men ascended and descended to and from the eye above by means of ladders. His mates noticed that he was as they say stupid from drink and about 5 am he went to lay down a while. They saw him no more but on proceeding to the bank about 6 he was missed and on a search being made his body was found at the bottom of the shaft. It is supposed he went up the ladder and had fallen. His bait bottle was found at the eye.

BOWMAN George - 1876 - 24/02/1876 – Age 55 - Horsedriver. Framwellgate, Stevenson Jaques and Co., Durham, Co. Durham. Run over by a truck while removing it on the sidings.

BOWMAN Robert - 1877 - 21/02/1877 – Age 26 - Collier. Goatfoot Colliery, Boyd Gilmour and Co., Galston, Ayrshire. Fall of coal.

BOWRY John - 1874 - 13/03/1874 – Age 19 - Station lad. Shipcote, John Bowes and Partners, Gateshead, Durham. Run over by empty tubs which got a main down an incline.

BOWSKILL Thomas - 1871 - 17/06/1871 – Age 63 - Collier. Birley Vale, Jeffcock and Dunn, Sheffield, Yorkshire. Fell into sinking shaft.

BOWYER Anthony - 1873 - 02/12/1873 – Age 18 – Filler. Hafod, Ruabon Coal Co. Ltd., Ruabon, Denbigh. Explosion of gas. Dataler sent to remove some gas out of wicket by setting door. Williams unscrewed his lamp. 5 killed.

BOWYER J. - 1873 - 19/09/1873 – Age 14 - Horsedriver. Essington Wood, Darlaston Steel and Iron Co., Wolverhampton, Stafford. Fell off skip whilst improperly riding thereon.

BOYCOTT Elijah - 1872 - 04/11/1872 – Age 60 - Miner. Nantyglo (ironstone), Nantyglo Co. Ltd., Monmouth. Fall of roof.

BOYD John - 1871 - 10/07/1871 – Age 60 – Engineer. Govan, WS Dixon, Rutherglen. Scalded by steam while repairing the throttle valve of the steam engine. 3 killed.

BOYD Robert - 1877 - 17/05/1877 – Age 32 – Shaftsman. East Hetton, East Hetton Coal Co., Coxhoe, Durham. Fall of stone from side of upcast shaft about 30 fathoms from bottom striking him on the head while repairing guides.

BOYDELL Joseph (injured) - 1879 - 16/09/1879 – Age 30 – Fireman. Westleigh, James Diggle, Westleigh, Lancashire. Burned by a shot. It went off as he was drawing the wadding which had stuck in the hole the cartridge having burst before reaching the top. 3 injured.

BOYLE James - 1878 - 21/11/1878 – Age 47 - Collier. Seaham, Marquess of Londonderry, Seaham, Durham. Injuries to head by set of tubs on incline plane. He left refuge hole before the second set had passed.

BOYLE John - 1878 - 18/12/1878 – Age 50 - Labourer. Cleland, William Dixon Ltd., Bothwell, Lanarkshire. Fell down shaft with loaded hutch. He opened the gate but failed to see that the cage was not there.

BOYLE Michael - 1878 - 18/12/1878 – Age 35 - Collier. Sherdley, Bourne and Robinson St. Helens Lancashire. Fall of roof he was told by the fireman not to go under that part of the roof after he had left his working place he went under to load up some coal.

BOYLE Tague - 1879 - 02/07/1879 – Age 22 – Brusher. Blantyre No.1, William Dixon Ltd., Blantyre, Lanarkshire. Explosion of firedamp. 28 killed.

BOYWAY J - 1871 - 25/11/1871 – Age 30 – Pickman. New Hawne, New British Iron and Coal Co., Halesowen, Stafford. After completing the cutting of the white coal in thick coal pit stood under it to knock the spur out when the coal fell and killed him on the spot.

BRADBURY ? - 1870 - 19/08/1870. Bryn Hall, W and J Crippin, Wigan, Lancashire. Explosion of gas. 20 killed.

BRADBURY J - 1877 - 27/06/1877 – Age 17 – Driver. Annesley, Annesley Colliery Co., Annesley, Derbyshire. Suffocated by noxious gasses arising from a recent fire in main road at which they were trying to clear away. 7 killed.

BRADLEY A. - 1875 - 13/10/1875 – Age 18 – Loader. Old Buffery, J Jones and Sons, Dudley, Worcester. A heavy fall of rock from smooth face of a great fault upon the floor without injuring him. He however died through shock to the system.

BRADLEY Albert - 1877 - 27/04/1877 – Age 11 - Boatman’s son. Top o’ th’ Lodge, Lancashire. Fell overboard while steering a boat. Drowned in canal opposite Strawberry Hill.

BROWN James - 1878 - 13/011/1878 – Age 35 - Collier. Niddrie, Benahr Coal Co. Ltd., Liberton, Edinburgh. Buried in old waste. The seam lies at an angle of 80 degrees. He had holed into an old working and while stepping on some loose rubbish in it, it slipped away with him.

BROWN James - 1879 - 14/02/1879 – Age 24 - Miner. Leadhills (metalliferous), Leadhills, Silver Lead Mining and Smelting Co. Ltd., Leadhills, Lanarkshire. Struck by stone falling from bucket at the bottom of sump.

BROWN James - 1879 - 19/11/1879 – Age 22 - Collier. Ashtons Green, Henry Bramall and Co., St. Helens, Lancashire. As he was lowering a tub down an incline the break rim smashed and the brake handle flew back striking him.
