He was sitting watching the colliers and was away from his post. No.3, Rhondda seam 3.5ft. thick. Pillar and stall. Died 1st. August.
BRANCH T. - 1881 - 04/03/1881 – Age 19 – Collier. Lower Conygre, Samborn Smith and Co., Somerset. Fell down shaft. He was hitching coal at a landing part way down the pit, the descending cage passed by the landing a few feet, and he shoved the tram under it without noticing and fell with the tram to the bottom.

BRAY Eli - 1889 - 04/03/1889 – Age 58 – Repairer. Albion, Albion Steam Coal Co., Pontypridd, Glamorgan. While raising a large stone from a tram on to a pack wall some small stones fell from the roof near the spot which caused him to drop the stone on his foot. He was in had health and died from gangrene on 10th March.

BRAY John (injured) - 1889 - 07/09/1889 - 48 – Miner. Wheal, Basset (metalliferous), Redruth, Cornwall. While taking a pipe out of the whim shaft the rope caught Bray's head jamming it against a piece of timber and fracturing his jaw bone. The accident was due to the lander sending down two pumps instead of one as it was his duty to have done. The lander was discharged for this indiscretion.

BRENNAN Patrick (Kate) - 1886 - 30/10/1886 – Age 16 - Door tenter. Jarrow No.3, Joseph Dobbs, Castlecomer, Ireland. By roof stone falling. He in order to warm himself took a run with a hutch to a working place about 300 yards away from his door and whilst there awaiting the filling of the hutch a slab of slate fell upon him. It was not his work to be at the working face.
BRENNAN Patrick - 1887 - 01/03/1887 – Age 34 – Miner. Jarrow and Rock, Ridge Joseph Dobbs, Kilkenny, Ireland. Fatally hurt by roof stone falling where he and another miner had been cautioned to set props but omitted doing so. It seems he walked home after the accident and was afterwards sent to the Infirmary, where he died April 5th. The coroner, who was newly appointed did not hold an inquest.

BRENNEN Charles (Rowe) (injured) - 1887 - 26/11/1887 – Miner. Clonbrock, Thomas Robson Queen’s Co., Ireland. Burned by the ignition of a small quantity of firedamp that had accumulated in a rise corner of an inner cut through from a lodge end where water partially interrupted the air current and there being no screen most of the air escaped without passing the place. The fireman it appeared had examined with a safety lamp but omitted trying in the corner. 2 injured.
BRETTELL Benjamin - 1880 - 26/04/1880 – Age 48 – Pikeman. Timbertree, New British Iron Co., Old Hill, Staffordshire. Fall of roof coal over timber props at the edge of the bolt hole of the bottom working of the thick coal.
BRETTELL Samuel - 1884 - 26/06/1884 – Age 16 – Settboy. Cutlers End, Farley and Druce, West Bromwich, Staffordshire. Died 18th July. By tubs on dip engine plane.
BREW William (injured) - 1883 - 31/03/1883 – Age 35 - Miner. Great Laxey (metalliferous). Brew was pushing powder into a hole with an iron scraper when it exploded and burnt him badly in the face. Some of the rock at the top of the hole was thrown off and struck Calley on the side. Brew 6 weeks off. Calley 1 week off.
BREWER George - 1886 - 14/01/1886 – Age 33 – Labourer. Wain Llwyd, Ebbw Vale Steel Iron and Coal Co. Ltd., Monmouth. He and another man were employed on an engine plane worked by an endless rope about 50 yards above them a tram got loose and ran back. They were within 6 feet of a manhole but were too startled to move. Brewer was killed and the other man injured.
BREWER Thomas - 1882 - 18/12/1882 – Labourer. Stank (metalliferous), Barrow Haematite Steel Co., Lancashire. Struck by timber while unloading it from waggon.
BRIDDICK William - 1882 - 18/10/1882 – Age 18 – Putter. Alexandrina, Marquess of Londonderry, Fence Houses, Co. Durham. Fracture of spine by fall of stone which knocked out some props. Died 12th February 1883.
BRIDGE Andrew - 1881 - 01/09/1881 – Age 14 - Gin driver. Morrcroft, Old Day and Lloyd, Bilston, Staffordshire. The cotter which holds the horse shafts to the horse arm of the gin broke which allowed the gin to run wild, and striking the driver and horse killed both on the spot.
BRIDGE Andrew - 1889 - 22/08/1889 – Age 62 - Miner Gin. Crumbuke, Astley & Tyldesley Coal & Salt Co. Ltd., Lancashire. Killed by roof falling. The roof began weighting and another collier and the drawer left deceased said it will give more notice but it did not. Inquest attended.
BRIDGE Isaac (injured) - 1888 - 20/04/1888 – Age 45 – Miner. Tong End (metalliferous), Henry Heys & Co., Lancashire. Head cut by falling about 7 feet with planking 23 inches in breadth on which he was wheeling a barrow of stone in the mine. He had placed the planking himself but without giving sufficient hold at one end.

BRIDGE James - 1883 - 13/03/1883 – Age 65 – Engineman. Sherdley, Bornes and Robinson, St. Helens, Lancashire. Inspection made and inquest attended. He attempted to get into the cage after it had been signalled away and after being warned not to do so. The cage was lowered at that moment he was getting in and he was crushed.

BROOKS James - 1884 - 24/03/1884 – Age 40 - Prop taker. Chapel House, Executors of late Edward Smith, Skelmersdale, Lancashire. Inspection made and inquest attended. This accident was due to gross carelessness on the part of deceased. He was engaged in drawing some bars and props from the waste and instead of commencing at the far end drew those nearest to the face first leaving one standing in the waste which he thought would be knocked out by the fall. When he went to work on the following morning and found that the roof had not fallen, he commenced to draw the prop, when the roof came in upon him.

Datallers or daymen had been working in this part of the brow during the night and left it as they and the fireman considered in good order. 5 injured.
