IMMERY John - 1882 - 25/08/1882 – Age 24 – Miner. Broxburn Hayscraig (shale), Broxburn Oil Co Ltd., Uphall, Linlithgow. Explosion of firedamp. Danks and Neil, without thought, went with naked lights into a place which they knew was unventilated. They all lived more than a week after the accident and could explain how it happened. 4 killed.
INCE James - 1889 - 22/04/1889 – Age 25 - Gang rider. Ellerbeck Yard, Ellerbeck Collieries Ltd., Lancashire. Fatal from injury received riding up the engine brow with full tubs died at home. Inspection and inquest.

INGHAM Laurence - 1885 - 21/11/1885 – Age 20 – Miner. Towneley, Brooks & Pickup, Lancashire. Fatal. Having just completed knocking out props in part of his place which was finished in the Arley Mine a large stone dropped out from between two slips in the roof and caught him. He had only just relieved his comrade, an experienced miner, who was within a few yards of him at the time.

ISHAMAEL William (injured) - 1889 - 08/10/1889 – Age 35 – Miner. Lisburne (metalliferous). They were working in some overhand stopes when the top of an adjacent pass (mill) collapsed causing the stuff upon which they were standing to run. They were carried down and entangled with the stuff receiving severe bruising and some flesh wounds. The pass was one which they themselves had built with large stones. 2 injured. Four and half weeks off.
ISHERWOOD Fergus - 1886 - 16/09/1886 – Age 39 – Collier. California, Wigan Coal and Iron Co. Ltd., Wigan, Lancashire. Inquest attended. Deceased was ribbing a pillar when a stone fell upon him. According to the evidence of the other men the place was well timbered.
ISHERWOOD Robert (injured) - 1889 - 21/07/1889 – Age 35 – Sinker. Alkrington No.2, Sinking Chamber Colliery Co., Lancashire. Injured by falling 10 yards from a scaffold which he was cleaning. Inquiry.
ISHERWWOD William (injured) - 1886 - 19/04/1886 – Age 39 – Miner. Linnyshaw Brassy, Bridgewater Trustees, Lancashire. Fatal fall of roof after taking down clod in their working place and before they had been able to reset props. They had just before examined and considered it safe. 1 killed 1 injured.
ISHMAEL David (injured) - 1883 - 11/12/1883 – Age 38 – Miner. Lisburne (metalliferous). He was at the surface with his comrade getting down timber to the mouth of the adit level when a piece of timber sent rolling down the hillside by his comrade struck him on the breast. Still unable to work March 1884.
ISON Arthur - 1884 - 11/11/1884 – Age 16 – Onsetter. Glapwell, Sheepbridge Iron and Coal Co., Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Engineman supposed to have gone on without signal he was pushing water tub onto cage.
ISON Thomas - 1887 - 06/06/1887 – Age 62 – Dataler. Glapwell, Sheepbridge Coal and Iron Co., Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Taking out timber to repair a roadway a bar struck him and killed him instantly.
ISONS James - 1889 - 01/04/1889 – Age 13 – Hewer. Burradon, NG Lambert and Co., Burradon, Northumberland. Fall of coal and roof.
IVEY James - 1882 - 15/07/1882 – Age 17 - Asst. pitman. Gawton (metalliferous), Gawton Mining Co., Gawton, Tavistock, Devon Was working with his father in the engine shaft at the 100-fathom level, and went up to the 70 fathoms level to get a dag or hatchet. As he was absent longer than necessary, one of the miners went in search for him and found him dead on the cistern at the 95 fathoms level, the dag being found at the 80 fathoms level. In coming down he, by some means, missed his hold and fell away.
IVILLE Levi (injured) - 1885 - 08/08/1885 – Sinker. Rocher Hill, Rocher Colliery Co., Lancashire. Head cut by a small stone which fell about 5 yards from below a seam of coal which they had passed through in the sinking pit.

IZATT Andrew - 1881 - 10/05/1881 – Age 24 – Collier. Govan No.6, WS Dixon, Glasgow, Lanarkshire. Fall of coal.
IZATT Archibald - 1880 - 02/07/1880 – Contractor. Muiredge No.1, Bowman and Co., Leven, Fife. While riding on hutches he attempted to jump off at a level and was jammed.
