Deceased went through the fence gates to shout down the shaft to a pump man below about his steam and appears to have leaned over the pit to do so when the descending cage struck him. It was his duty to see where the cage was before putting himself in such a dangerous position.

BANK Charles - 1885 – 03/08/1885 – Age 85 – Blacksmith. Little Town, Earl of Durham, Durham, Co. Durham. Arm and leg scalded by falling into hot water pond. Died on 7th.
BANKS George - 1881 – 10/03/1881 – Age 23 – Collier. Bradley Hall, B and R Fisher, Wigan, Lancashire. Inspection made and inquest attended. The top coal fell on to deceased, in consequence of his neglecting to set a sufficient number of props.
BANKS James - 1880 - 18/11/1880 – Age 14 – Pusher-on. Garswood Hall, Smethurst Hoyle and Grime, Wigan, Lancashire. The deceased was pushing an empty tub (contrary to rules) across the cage at the pit bottom, when the engine was started, and the tub catching against a bearer, the deceased was thrown out. The evidence as to whether a signal had been given to the engine man was very conflicting, but it was thought that the signal had been unintentionally given by the deceased himself.

Injured by being lowered suddenly to the bottom when descending the shaft the attention of the man at the engine being taken off his work by talking to the book keeper for which he was to be dismissed. proceedings were taken against the owners at the County Court, Blackburn 15th Mar 1887 for compensation under the Employers Liability Act. None-suited. An engineman not being a superintendent.

A tunnel was being driven between two pits about 170 yards down and after examining the plan deceased set the men to work. As he was watching them a piece of stone suddenly fell from the side and caught him.

BANNISTER William - 1887 - 07/06/1887 – Age 24 – Pikeman. Rowley Station, Rowley Station Colliery Co., Rowley Regis, Staffordshire. Killed when drawing timber in a road only 4 feet wide between the trees, by the following roof falling upon him.
BANT William (injured) - 1889 - 05/02/1889 – Age 22 – Miner. Drakewalls (metalliferous), Ginnislake, Cornwall. On the morning the accident occurred Rule and Bant with two other miners went underground to their work as usual. They commenced work by removing some boards to let down a quantity of sand to fill up a stope which they had previously worked out. During the operation they lost control of the running sand which came away in such quantities that the men had to fly for their lives and Rule and Bant's retreat was cut off by the stope and the level below being filled with the sand. They were ultimately rescued by a new level being driven from above after being five days underground without light or food and were affected to some extent from exposure and starvation. A special report was made in this case giving full details and this was subsequently presented to Parliament. 2 injured.

The gas collected in a corner which the fireman failed to examine and where the air slipped past it. The deceased also should have tried with the Davy lamp with which he was provided. The fireman was taken before the magistrates and fined 5s. and costs.

Crushed, one between each buffer in passing between railway waggons at the screens some other waggons that were being brought down having bumped against another and caused it to move. The Brakesman bringing the waggons called out but the colliers were busy reading their work ticket and not on the alert. 2 killed.

A collier of Green Haworth, working at Messrs Thomas Simpson's Broadfield Colliery was following his employment in the pit last week when the roof gave way, and he sustained serious injuries to his back".
