YARKER John - 1886 - 22/12/1886 – Age 22 – Putter. Etherley, Henry Stobart and Co., Auckland, Co. Durham. Received slight injury to fingers, he afterwards got cold and died from inflammation of the lungs.
YATE Mark - 1886 - 14/06/1886 – Age 32 – Pikeman. Coneygre, Trustees of the Earl of Dudley, Rowley Regis, Staffordshire. While retimbering a gate road a large piece of coal fell on him killing him on the spot.
YATES David - 1889 - 01/08/1889 – Age 19 – Collier. Bwllfa, GWH Brogden, Aberdare, Glamorgan. Fall of roof (coal) 4ft. x 2ft. x 8ins thick at face of heading which was supported by cogs and props 9ft seam, 5.5 of which was worked and 3.5 left on as roof.

YATES J. - 1886 – 13/09/1886 – Age 19 – Loader. Podmore Hall, Cooper and Craig, Newcastle, Staffordshire. Pushed his tub into cage dip and fell after it.

YATES James (injured) - 1884 – 14/03/1884 – Age 50 – Miner. Ashworth, Ashworth Colliery Co., Lancashire. Slightly burned on edge of goad at open light. Explosion 2 injured.
YATES James - 1880 – 17/06/1880 – Age 22 – Collier. Gidlow, Wigan Coal and Iron Co. Ltd., Wigan, Lancashire. Fall of roof from between the bars in drawing road. The bars were too far apart considering the nature of the roof.
YATES James - 1886 - 04/05/1886 – Age 59 – Dataler. Garswood Hall, Garswood Hall Collieries Co. Ltd., Wigan, Lancashire. Inquest attended. He disturbed the foot of a prop when laying rails on a drawing road and the roof fell on him.
YATES James - 1889 - 16/09/1889 – Age 34 – Dayman. School Half Yard, Hulton Colliery Co. Ltd., Lancashire. Killed when firing two shots in the floor his body being found lying on the fired shots. He was lighting with a wire heated through the gauze of a safety lamp and possibly the first shot went off before he had got away from lighting the second. Inspection and inquest attended.

Thigh broken when waggoning on a steep drawing road, a tub which had been left standing on the road untouched, contrary to special rule, was set into motion by another drawer's tub coming against it.

YATES Joseph (injured) - 1888 - 17/12/1888 – Age 38 – Miner. Withins Lane, Andrew Knowles and Sons Ltd., Lancashire. Head and back injured by roof stone falling as he was passing with a tub, the place had been examined by the miner who was getting a prop to set underneath and shouted a warning but was not heard.

YATES William (injured) - 1885 - 18/01/1885 – Age 22 - Engine tenter. Red Walls, Thomas Simpson and Co., Lancashire. Scalded by hot water and steam while taking some part of the Trangye pump asunder. He was accustomed to the work but released the screws too quickly.
YATES William (injured) - 1886 - 04/10/1886 – Age 13 – Drawer. Westhoughton, New Westhoughton Coal and Cannel Co. Ltd. Lancashire. Injured by his tub coming into collision with another. It was his first day at the work and be did not appear to be keeping sufficient look out.
YATES William (injured) - 1889 - 17/05/1889 – Age 16 - Pony driver. Bradford Forge, Bradford Colliery Co., Lancashire. Leg broken. He slipped in getting the front tub, having got off to urge the pony forward. Inspection and inquiry.
YATES William - 1881 - 10/09/1881 – Age 53 – Pitman. Chamber, Chamber Colliery Co. Ltd., Oldham, Lancashire. Knocked down the shaft by a fall side which he was repairing.
YATES William - 1883 - 07/11/1883 – Age 46. Moorfield, Altham Colliery Co. Ltd., Lancashire. Explosion of gas, 68 killed.
YATES William - 1883 - 14/08/1883 – Age 45 – Collier. Rose Bridge, Rose Bridge & Douglas Bank Collieries Co. Ltd., Wigan, Lancashire. Inspection made and inquest attended. He was wedging his coal down after he had holed it and drawn the sprags. The coal fell suddenly, he fell, in trying to get away he caught against a prop with his back, and the coal caught and crushed him. The working place was in good order.
YATES William - 1886 - 23/01/1886 – Age 18 – Dataler. Bold, Collins Green Colliery Co. Ltd., Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire. Inspection made. The deceased, his father and another man, were putting a heavy bar up and had a temporary prop under it when it fell and struck him. No roof fell.
YATES William - 1888 - 21/02/1888 – Age 24 – Collier. Whiston, Wigan and Whiston Coal Co. Ltd., Prescot, Lancashire. Inspection made and inquest attended. Deceased was ordered, by the fireman, to set a bar over his drawing road as soon as he had finished his breakfast but he neglected to do so and went on working till the roof fell upon him. He was warned of his danger by another collier half an hour before the accident.
YEMM Amos - 1882 - 10/02/1882 – Age 42 – Roadsman. East Slade, New Bowson Co., Forest of Dean, Gloucester. Fall of stone. Deceased was engaged in drawing timber out of an old road, he incautiously went to the inner side to knock out a prop and a large quantity of stone and rubbish came down on to him.
YEMM George - 1880 - 15/07/1880 – Age 38 - Bottom cutter. Risca Black Vein, London and South Wales Coal Co., Risca, Monmouth. Explosion of firedamp 120 killed.
YEMM M. - 1880 - 15/07/1880 – Age 20 – Haulier. Risca Black Vein, London and South Wales Coal Co., Risca, Monmouth. Explosion of firedamp 120 killed.
YEOLAND Edwin - 1884 - 04/06/1884 – Age 19 – Shaftman. West Poldice (metalliferous), West Poldice Mining Co., St. Day, Cornwall. Just as the skip was starting to be drawn to the surface, from the 80 fathom level, deceased attempted to climb into it, but only partially succeeded in doing so and before the skip could be stopped he was caught against the dividings of the shaft and instantly killed. About half an hour previous to the accident deceased had been forbidden by the agent of the mine to ride in the skip.
YEOMAN John - 1886 - 03/07/1886 – Age 40 – Miner. Cragshall (ironstone), Pease and Partners Ltd., Loftus, Yorkshire. While working in the broken a fall of shale took place knocking out a prop, which fell on his head.
YORK Thomas - 1886 - 30/12/1886 – Age 40 – Overman. Prince of Wales, Dudley Colliery Co., Dudley, Worcester. Died 2nd January.
YORKE William - 1880 - 25/03/1880 – Age 31 – Hitcher. Pentre, Cardiff and Swansea Coal Co., Pentre Glamorgan. A piece of coal fell upon him from a tram which was being raised in the pit.
YOUNG Adam (injured) - 1880 - 06/07/1880 – Foreman. Mountfield (Metalliferous), Sub-Wealden Gypsum Co. Ltd., East Sussex. Arm broken by cage descending in shaft.
YOUNG Adam - 1887 - 26/05/1887 – Age 23 – Collier. Trabboch No. 2, John Galloway and Co., Ayr, Ayrshire. He entered an old road without authority to do so and ignited some gas.
YOUNG Charles - 1888 - 04/10/1888 – Age 26 – Collier. Cethin No. 2, Crawshaw Bros., Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan. Fall of roof (cliff) 7ft. long 2ft. wide from between a slip and break 5.5ft. from face and over the road.
YOUNG Estyn - 1888 - 20/09/1888 – Age 21 – Miner. Chanters Five Foot Mine, Fletcher Burrows & Co., Lancashire. Fatally crushed by a full tub in a gig brow, the tub having got off the rails he applied the brake suddenly strained the chain so that it broke when he put the tub on and he was driven down before it.

YOUNG George - 1885 - 15/04/1885 – Age 58 – Shifter. Blackhill, Consett Iron Co. Ltd., Consett, Co. Durham. Died from natural causes while leaving his work. Air good on main intake. (not comprised).
YOUNG George - 1886 - 28/05/1886 – Age 22 – Collier. Troed-y-Rhiew, Claudd Ebbw Vale Steel Iron and Coal Co. Ltd., Monmouth. Fall of roof. He had worked off 12 to 18 inches of coal when the rock fell, owing to a clay joint behind him which was invisible and which ran out to a thin edge over the coal, where it broke off.
YOUNG Hutchinson - 1884 - 15/07/1884 – Age 50 – Deputy. Pelton, Lord Dunsany and Partners, Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham. Fall of stone while drawing timber out of a broken jud in Low Main Seam.

YOUNG John - 1885 – 16/02/1885 – Age 58 – Collier. Camerton New, Miss Jarrett Camerton, Somerset. Fall of stone. He was wedging up some bottom coal when the top fell on him. A row of props were standing 3 ft. 6 in. from the face and close to the stone that fell. He had tried shout 10 minutes previously and sounded strong.
YOUNG John - 1886 – 07/04/1886 – Age 47 – Brakesman. Llay Hall, ET Clarke, Wrexham, Denbigh. Inspection made and inquest attended. A waggon was standing on the crossing, which it was necessary to move, and instead of pushing it forward with the engine direct the deceased got a short prop and placed it between the engine and buffer of the waggon. On the engine being started the props slipped and deceased was crushed between the buffers. It was a foolish thing to do and no explanation could be given by the other men as to the reason why the work was not done in the ordinary way.

He was getting coal at the face when he heard a bud slip and a stone fell on him. He did not appear to have taken sufficient care in stetting his timber.

YATES John - 1883 - 16/07/1883 – Age 21 – Drawer. Abram, Abram Coal Co. Ltd., Wigan, Lancashire. Inspection made. A piece of top coal fell over a loose end of the working place striking the deceased. The place was fairly well timbered, and there did not appear to have been any negligence.

The deceased was engaged in clearing some roofing dirt down from the drawing road into the pack when a stone suddenly fell knocking out four props. It is supposed that he disturbed the foot of one of the props with his shovel.
