Was engaged in clearing a gutter in the 30 fathom level when a piece of rock fell out from the side on to him and killed him instantly. The level was a disused one, and deceased being a timberman should not have worked there without securing himself if he considered it dangerous.

Deceased had been told by the fireman to set some props at the place where he was working, which was done. He then went on getting coal and bared a slip at the face, when the stone fell, knocking out the props.

DUNN William - 1889 - 20/08/1889 – Age 26 – Miner. Dolcoath (metalliferous), Camborne, Cornwall. Deceased and his comrade, James Holman were engaged at the 338 fathom level and while walking along the 814 fathom level on their way to surface a rock fell on the road which gave way and took deceased with it a distance of 80 fathoms. He died five days after the accident occurred. The ground at the spot did not appear to be badly secured.

DUNSTAN Edward - 1888 - 29/12/1888 – Age 25 – Engineman. Tylor’s, A Tylor and Co. Ltd., Pontypridd, Glamorgan. While deceased was cleaning the inside of a boiler the stoker turned on the cold water feed on the next boiler and steam escaped from this into the other and scalded him.
DUNSTAN John - 1886 - 28/12/1886 – Age 17 – Miner. Wheal Basset (metalliferous), Wheal Basset Mining Co., Redruth, Cornwall. Was lowered in the gig with five other men to the 180 fathoms level. The water being in the mine a few feet above that level the deceased was drowned the others with great difficulty managed to escape.
DUNSTAN John - 1888 - 05/10/1888 – Age 20 – Tributer. Mellanear, Copper (metalliferous), Hayle, Cornwall. While working at the bottom of the 100 fathom level a piece of stone, about three tons weight slipped out from the hanging wall of the lode to the deceased, killing him instantly. A shot had been fired about 10 minutes before right under the stone which must have undoubtedly been shaken by it. This stone was about 18 inches thick at the top and thin at the bottom and about 8 or 9 feet in length and it fell from a smooth parting. The place was well secured, and this particular spot had been examined shortly before.
DUNSTONE John (injured) - 1889 - 04/06/1889 – Miner. Dolcoath (metalliferous), Camborne, Cornwall. The main engine rod broke at the 190 fathom level and the men as a result fell a few feet by which they sustained some slight injuries. As other accidents had recently occurred at this mine from similar causes, I wrote to the manager suggesting that a little more scrutiny on the part of the man responsible for keeping the man engine in good repair might possibly prevent some accidents. Captain Thomas replied that he would appoint a successor to the man in charge of this work although he doubted if it were possible to display more vigilance in inspecting the man engines that had been shown in the past. 4 injured.

DURBIN H.J. - 1883 - 01/03/1883 – Age 14 - Carting boy. Writhlington, Writhlington Colliery Co., Writhlington, Somerset. He was bringing a tram down a slight incline the custom was to use three sprags. On this occasion he tried to take it down without any and it overpowered him.
DURBIN J. - 1881 - 26/04/1881 – Age 29 – Collier. Malago Vale, Bristol Colliery Co., Somerset. The deceased and his partner went a short distance down a hatching whilst the third man fired a shot 34 feet along the face at right angles to the heading. When it exploded a small stone must have ricocheted from the coal or timber and it struck him on the head. He of laceration of the brain on the 27th.

DUTTON Walter - 1882 - 30/06/1882 – Age 16 - Down brow boy. Edge Green, Richard Evans and Co., Golborne, Lancashire. Inspection made and inquest attended. The rope attached to two tubs was unhooked by deceased’s orders, before he had time to scotch them, and they overpowered and crushed him against some full tubs standing nearby.
