MATTHIAS S. - 1875 - 26/10/1875 – Age 65 - Labourer. Abercwmboy, D Davis and Sons, Aberdare, Glamorgan. Killed by piece of coal falling down shaft.

MATTISON J. - 1878 - 04/11/1878 – Age 63 – Driver. Glass Houghton, JD Thorps executors, Pontefract, Yorkshire. Crushed by corves.

MATTISON William - 1873 - 19/04/1873 – Waggoner. Whinney Hill, Altham Co., Altham, Lancashire. Slipping on a turn and jammed by his tub against the side. The boy was a Drawer at Whinney Hill Coal Pit, and worked for Charles Redfern. On Saturday morning last, he was following his ordinary employment by taking a wagon of coal to the Ginney. He was in front of the wagon, drawing it after him, and was about 30 yards distant from where the coal-getter was at work he came to an acute angle. It would appear he was going too fast, for the tub jerked round and jumped him against the side, injuring him on the chest and internally. His getter went to his aid at once and released him, and the boy was conveyed to the pit bank and then taken home. Dr. Pilkington attended, but he died from his injuries early on Sunday morning. The jury returned a verdict of Accidental death. (Accrington Times).
