JONES William - 1876 - 08/08/1876 – Age 40 – Blacksmith. Elgar (metalliferous), Elgar Mining Co., Cardiganshire. Crushed to death by a water-wheel. He was left in charge of the mine and about 5.45 p.m. went to put some grease on the bearing of the water-wheel shaft where he was caught by the crank and fell over into the wheel. He was carried round by the arms and fell into the wheel pit. Skull fractured and death almost immediate.
