FLEMMING Jonathan - 1875 - 05/08/1875 – Age 27 – Fireman. Martholme, Great Harwood Colliery Co. Ltd., Great Harwood, Lancashire. Suffocated by firedamp which they apparently ventured too far into whilst dislodging it at night. 2 killed. They had been inspecting the air passages, and last night went down the mine at 2 o'clock in the morning. They did not return, and about 6 o'clock in the morning a search party went down. Both men were found to have died from choke damp. They were both married and had families".

FLETCHER Richard - 1874 - 14/04/1874. Astley, Dunkirk Co., Dukinfield, Cheshire. Explosion of firedamp. 54 killed.

FLETCHER Samuel - 1872 - 31/01/1872 – Age 20 – Waggoner. Ladyshore, John Fletcher, Little Lever, Lancashire. Explosion of firedamp in Trencherbone mine. It was on the east main level where a blower of gas had been in active operation in 1869-70 and 71 after which it nearly ceased but at the time of the explosion it became active consequent of a new drift approaching the line of fissure on the dip which caused the atmospheric to be brought to bear on the intermediate space and he took in a candle and not a safety lamp. He was burned to death and 9 others were almost suffocated by afterdamp.

FLETCHER William - 1874 - 17/09/1874 – Age 37 – Stallman. Loscoe, Butterley Iron and Coal Co., Langley Mill, Derbyshire. Fall of bind while repairing air way in the act of setting timber to support the roof when it fell.

FLETCHER William - 1879 - 10/10/1879 – Age 33 - Miner. Great Lever Lower 3 Yard, Earl of Bradford, Great Lever, Lancashire. Hurt by coal falling after a shot had been fired. Died 14th Nov.

FLINN John - 1877 - 07/11/1877 – Age 21- Hewer. Washington, William Stobart, Washington, Durham. Fall of stone in longwall working.

FLINT. John - 1874 - 14/07/1874 – Age 28 - Collier. West Hallam, West Hallam Iron and Coal Co., Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Sinking small air shaft 12 yards deep when hemp rope broke and deceased fell from top to bottom of shaft.

FLINT or FLYNN Peter - 1875 - 10/06/1875 – Age 36 - Sinker. Park Lane, Garswood Coal and Iron Co. Ltd., Wigan, Lancashire. Lowered down sinking pit too quickly. 2 killed. The inquest was held in Ashton on David Jones, sinker, who died from injuries received on the 30th July at the No.1 sinking pit for the Garswood Coal and Iron Company. The hoppet containing four men was being lowered down the shaft at a rather high speed with the result that the engineman was unable to top the hoppet and it was dashed against the bottom. All in the hoppet were seriously injured. Flynn was taken to Wigan, Infirmary where he died a few days later. Three others were taken to their homes. Jones died on Sunday and two others were reported to be in a perilous condition. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that the deceased had died as a result of the injuries which he had received and the jury considered the engineman, Joseph .Topping deserving of a grave censure for allowing the engine to overrun in these circumstances. FLOOD John - 1877 - 30/01/1877 – Age 75 – Screener. Burnhope, Messrs Fletcher and Sowerby, Lanchester, Durham. Thrown down by hauling engine rope which broke his leg. Died 6th Feb.

FLOOD Michael - 1879 - 16/05/1879 – Age 33 - Miner. Ellesmere, Bridgewater Trust, Worsley, Lancashire. Died apparently from a slight injury 3rd Apr when a piece of coal knocked his head against a prop.

FLOOK Samuel - 1870 - 01/12/1870 – Age 13 - Gin driver. Coalpit Heath, Coalpit Heath Co., Coalpit Heath, Gloucester Fell down sinking pit.

FLOWER Thomas - 1871 - 31/01/1871 – Age 33 – Sinker. Mells, Vobster and Mells Co., Mells, Somerset. The pit was in the process of being deepened by sinking 50 yards beneath, the bottom and Flower was the last of 3 men to come up which he did after firing a shot and the jack roll brought him up those 50yds when he suddenly fell backwards and was killed. He should have had his leg in the loop and he would have been safe.

FLUKES George - 1879 - 02/04/1879 – Age 38 - Collier. Bedwellty, Tredegar Iron Co., Bedwellty, Monmouth. Explosion of firedamp. 6 killed.

FLYAN John - 1874 - 01/05/1874 – Age 28 – Sinker. White Moss, White Moss Coal Co. Ltd., Skelmersdale, Lancashire. Fall of stone in sinking shaft.

FLYNN A. - 1870 - 11/02/1870 - Miner. Coppy Hall (ironstone), Coppy Hall Co., Aldridge, Stafford. Injured by fall of measure 10th. Died this day in Walsall, hospital.

FLYNN Michael - 1876 - 16/10/1876 – Age 23 - Labourer. Bedford, John Speakman, Leigh, Lancashire. Washed off scaffold into water in the sinking pit an ascending barrel of water having got upset into shaft at pit top. 2 killed.

FORREST William - 1879 - 28/03/1879 – Age 48 - Collier. Littleburn, North Brancepeth Coal Co. Ltd., Durham, Co. Durham. Leg broken by fall of stone from a slip in the roof of Hutton Seam. Died 25th Nov from exhaustion consequent on long confinement.

FORRESTER Ebenezer - 1878 - 19/11/1878 – Age 39 – Brusher. Kelty, The Fife Coal Co. Ltd., Beath, Fife. Fall of roof on incline while re-brushing it. Longwall.

FORRESTER Robert - 1873 - 20/05/1873 – Sinker. Cluny, Anderson and Goodall, Kirkcaldy, Fife. By the breaking of the crane rope they fell 8 or 9 fathoms. The rope was completely decayed at the point of fracture it was six years old and had been laying in store for three years. 2 killed.

FOSS William - 1875 - 16/12/1875. Cleator (metalliferous) Cleator, Cleator Iron Ore Co., Cleator, Cumberland. He and another man was descending the shaft. The drum of the winding engine had not been made fast to the drum shaft and the cage ram amain and capsized itself crushing him against the side of the shaft.
