Corkill says he was ramming in the third or fourth layer of tamping; the other men say that not so much had been put in. He has lost the sight of one eye. 3 injured Corkhill still unable to work March 1886, the other 2 weeks off.

A man who was in the rear of the journey said nothing unusual had occurred and he could not account for deceased falling.

CHURM John - 1889 - 16/09/1889 – Age 64 – Collier. Grove, Grove Colliery Co., Wellington, Shropshire. While assisting to raise one of the legs for pulley frames a rope broke and the leg fell on to him. Died 21st September.
CHYNOWETH Joseph - 1888 - 27/08/1888 – Age 54 - Mine agent. Dolcoath (metalliferous), Camborne, Cornwall. Whilst going up in the man engine the main rod broke not however injuring anyone. The deceased then walked to another shaft and climbed the ladders and when he got to within 20 fathoms of the surface, he fell on a sollar and died. It was at first thought that the shock might have had something to do with his death but from the medical evidence it appeared that he died from failure of the heart's action due from over exertion in climbing. The breakage of the man engine rod was owing to oil having got into the wood by an unobserved crack. The rod apparently was quite sound.

CLACK James - 1885 - 07/09/1885 – Age 70 – Stower. Risca, London and South Wales Coal Co. Ltd., Risca, Monmouthshire. Run over by a journey of trains. He was coming out of No.2 district and a journey was going into No.1. At the junction the man in charge of the signals told him to wait but he went on and got caught by the first tram and was killed.
CLAGUE Henry (injured) - 1888 - 23/10/1888 – Age 45 – Miner. Rushen (metalliferous). A knot joining two ropes gave way and a sweep rod, which was being hoisted up, fell upon the two men and cut their heads. Clague 2 weeks off, Creer 3 weeks off.

He was filling and on raising himself his back caught against a projecting piece of timber on a prop which probably injured his spine. He went on working for six hours but was afterwards taken ill and died 23rd.

CLARKE James - 1888 - 25/09/1888 – Age 32 – Fireman. Meadows, Lamb and Moore, Wigan, Lancashire. Inspection made and inquest attended. He was taking down some brattice and as the roof appeared to be sound was apparently knocking out a prop when a stone suddenly fell from a slippy parting. There was no necessity to draw the prop.

CLARKE Samuel - 1886 - 21/07/1886 – Age 60 – Miner. Tregurtha Downs (metalliferous), Tregurtha Downs Mining Co., St. Hilary, Cornwall. Received severe injuries from a kibble falling on him that was being drawn to surface from which he subsequently died. The clamp connecting the whip rope to the horse trace was of faulty construction and gave way. Deceased was engaged filling the empty kibble but need not have been standing underneath the full one going up.

CLARKSON James - 1882 - 19/07/1882 – Age 19 – Drawer. Crow Orchard, Crow Orchard Colliery Co. Ltd., Skelmersdale, Lancashire. Inquiries made it appear from the evidence given at the inquest, that the deceased injured his leg slightly by knocking it against his tub. He however finished his day’s work, but gradually got worse, and eventually died of inflammation.

The weight was thrown over the main drawing road from the long wall workings and two men were engaged in timbering the road when as deceased passed under, a stone fell on to him. The drawing ought to have been stopped till the timber was fixed.
