FLITCROFT John - 1885 - 20/04/1885 – Age 33 – Miner. Great Lever, Earl of Bradford. Lancashire. Fatal fall of top coal from stony parting where he was commencing to work a pillar in the Three Yards Mine. He had props under it but no sprags against the side as there should have been to guard against such an occurrence. His own error.
FLITCROFT Mark - 1882 - 16/03/1882 – Age 37 – Metalman. Sutton Heath, James Radley, St. Helens, Lancashire. Inspection made and inquest attended. Fall of roof whilst deceased was building a pack. The place was well timbered, three props being knocked out by the fall.
FLITCROFT Thomas - 1885 - 05/02/1885 – Age 64 – Shotlighter. Cow Lee Lane, Thomas H Seddon, Lancashire. Fatal fall of roof while engaged doing some repairs to the road at the place. He was an old and experienced colliery manager until recently. His own misfortune.

FLOYD Thomas - 1888 - 06/01/1888 – Age 15 - Water leader. Cramlington, Cramlington Coal Co., Cramlington, Northumberland. Caught by a set of runaway tubs on self-acting incline. 2 killed.
FLOYD William - 1889 - 23/12/1889 – Age 23 – Timberman. Dolcoath (metalliferous), Camborne, Cornwall. Deceased was proceeding underground by the man engine together with other miners. He was carrying an axe in his hand. When they were between the 80 and 90 fathom level those who were following deceased heard a noise and a scream. On reaching the next sollar they found the deceased sitting on it. He complained of severe pains in his bowels and in reply to questions as to how he fell away said that his head got light. Steps were being taken to get the men to the surface by means of the man engine as he expressed his opinion that he could manage to get up but before arrangements for doing this were completed, he died much to the surprise of those present. An inspection of the place discovered nothing unusual or likely to cause the man to fall and therefore the occurrence must be considered accidental.

The deceased was getting top stone down, and had cut it on both sides for a distance of 5 or 6 feet without setting any sprags. He cut into a slip when it immediately fell upon him. Deceased had only been visited once by an official during the day. Had there been proper supervision this accident would probably never have occurred.

FOULKES Robert Thomas - 1888 - 16/11/1888 – Age 18 – Waggoner. Wynnstay, New British Iron Co. Ltd., Ruabon, Denbigh. Inspection made and inquest attended. He had hooked on an empty tub at the bottom of a short jig 14 yards long and then called out 'Go on,' but did not get out of the way when the man started the tub. One of the coupling links of the chain broke and the tub running back crushed deceased against the side.

FOX David - 1885 - 29/05/1885 – Age 74 – Deputy. Tyning, Trustees of the Countess of Waldegrave, Somerset. He was sitting resting on the top of an incline when an empty cart came up rather quicker than usual, it swung round and hit his leg causing a compound fracture of the bone. He died on the 25th. June after having recovered very well from a clot of blood finding its way to his heart.

He then reset his sprag and went on holing when some of the top coal fell over the sprag and caught him as he was running away.

Deceased was putting on his clothes after finishing his work in the main return air road when a heavy fall of roof came knocking out four or five props and one of the stones falling on the higher side pack slipped off and caught him.

FRANCIS Downing - 1885 - 08/07/1885 – Age 24 – Miner. Cook’s Kitchen (metalliferous), Cook’s Kitchen Mining Co., Camborne, Cornwall. One of the toes of deceased was crushed by the main rod of the pumping engine and was amputated. In consequence of deceased imprudently using his foot too soon tetanus set in causing death on the 21st July.

A large fall of roof on a double parting which was being repaired caused apparently by a sudden crush which discharged six or seven pairs of double timber. About 150 tons fell. FRIEND William - 1889 - 24/04/1889 – Age 18 – Screenman. Brancepeth, Strakers and Love, Willington, Durham. Killed by an explosion of coal dust while engaged cleaning out a coal bunker. They had large oil torch lamps with them and as soon as they commenced to disturb the large accumulation of fine dust an explosion took place. They died on the 27th. 3 killed.

FRUEN Philip (injured) - 1885 - 10/02/1885 – Age 22 – Miner. Mosley Common, Bridgewater Trustees, Lancashire. Injured by a large flat stone falling from the roof at the bottom of his place in the Crumbouke Mine. It appears to have been considered safe half an hour before when the fireman was with him. No cracks or breaks being noticeable.
