During the 69 years of working at Ollerton there were 65 fatal accidents, 198 serious/reportable accidents and 97 dangerous occurrences, including around 20 odd underground heatings.
A total of 56.5 million tonnes of saleable coal had been mined from Top Hard, Parkgate seams, and Main Bright development and Dunsil headings. The 530 yards (485m) deep shafts were filled with 40,000 tonnes of stone chippings and 4,000 tonnes of concrete in a record time of 6 days by AMCO, the mining engineering firm from Yorkshire.
Glynn Rose (Colliery Overman) was the last person to ride up the shaft before it was abandoned and filled.
