It was said in ‘Sphere’ paper that the best miners came from Ilkeston, Heanor or Langley Mill but Heanor men were preferred. 1,301 men were now living in Company housing in New Ollerton village.


1933:

1934:

  • 1s abandoned Nov, 623s, 622s, 600s finished, 1,900 yards walk. Change of policy, numbers changed to other side
  • South East district 3s, 2s, (new) 1s (1,360 yards) (1,244m), 1,600 yards, 1,400 yards and 1,300 yards walk
  • North West 9s Conveyor panel with undercut face machines, (600 yards) (549m), 1,550 yards walk
  • South West 8s Stalls, changed to Conveyor face, (200 yards) (182m) (250 yards) (229m), 1,100 yards walk and 7s stalls (400 yards) (365m) (350 yards) (320m), 1,000 yards walk
  • South West district developing through large faults, started 3 major drifts, plus one aborted and one snicket gate developed old 1s then hit fault again. Main road supports were 3 piece arches set on props laid sideways and buried packs for prevention of heatings. New price list for getting and filling machine cut coal on to conveyors on any line of cleavage per ton of 20 cwts (since Dec 1926) was 1s 0 d. It was found that it was difficult to work such a long face as 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s so 2 panels were stopped 1s and 2s. The panels were then renumbered 1s, 2s and 3s from other end and indoing so changed 4s to 2s and 5s to 1s (just to confuse everybody)
  • Output for year 1934 was 639,320 tons, 1,591 men on books, 1,233 u/g and 358 s/f and 559 men set on. 81.8 acres of coal worked, average 4.625 feet, 6,587 tons per acre, 1,424 tons per foot acre. 11.0 miles of roadway open.

1935:

  • 1s (1,500 yards walk) 2s (1,550 yards walk) and 3s (1,700 yards walk)
  • South East (one long face) (850 yards) (777m), undercut coal, hand filled, worked by 6 conveyors and with 2 buttocks
  • 9s North West (600 yards) (549m) (460 yards) (420m), shortening down to form boundary line and stripping faults to RHS (1,750 yards walk)
  • 8s South West (250 yards) (229m) (340 yards) (310m), extending, stripping goaf and faults and carrying fault m(1,200 yards walk)
  • 7s South West (350 yards) (320m) (200 yards) (183m), carrying fault, stripping fault
  • 10s North (100 yards) (91m), widening and stripping goaf (1,150 yards walk)
  • South West development, many faults, attempted opening out again.
  • Output for year 1935 was 586,777 tons, 1,604 men on books, 1,231 u/g, 373 s/f and 292 men set on. 81.8 acres of coal worked at 4.625 feet thick, 7,169 tons per acre,1,550 tons per foot acre. 10.75 miles of road open.


1936:
