Colliery closed 12th February 1994. Salvage coal produced during March transferred to Thoresby.

  • Henry Eustace Mitton, (1871-1946) 1922-1926 (previously Agent, promoted to Chief Mining Engineer then Director of Butterley Co in 1927, and later was a Mining Consultant, up to his death in 1946, on the eve of nationalization. Born in County Durham, he went to Canada in 1889 and did gold prospecting for 5 years in the Yukon and also worked on the railways. On his return to Britain he was articled to Maurice Deacon. In 1900 he worked for Tredegar Coal and Iron Co Ltd and then in 1905 he was appointed Agent to Butterley Co Ltd).
