DAVIS Benjamin - 1867 - 27/02/1867 – Age 48 - Collier. Cwmsychan Ebbw Vale Co., Ltd., Abersychan Monmouth. Explosion of firedamp which so injured him that he died 11th Mar. Some gas had accumulated in a hollow place in the roof over the gob in Consequence of a fall having choked the windway. The Fireman and the man in charge of the airways then went into the place to clear the fall and get the ventilation restored previously giving orders to take the men out of the neighbouring stall in case of explosion. Davis came back with a naked light far too soon and fired gas. He was killed and 7 others injured. A most inconsiderate and foolish act.

DAVIS Edward - 1860 - 13/02/1860 – Age 30 - Loader. Bradley Thorneycroft Bilston, Staffordshire. In the new mine and fireclay Coal pit these men were clearing out gutters near the bottom when amass suddenly rated off; too much coal had been removed near the bottom so as to bring on the squeeze. 2 killed.
DAVIS Edward - 1860 - 30/01/1860 – Age 14 Dirt carrier Bradley Thorneycroft Bilston, Staffordshire. Explosion of firedamp on 29th in a gateroad in the New Mine Coal in No.6 pit. A proper danger signal was up but induced by curiosity the boy went over the fault with a naked candle and fired the gas.

As some timber was descending the No.4 pit a piece fell out of the skip and killed the boy who was at the bottom where he should never have been permitted to remain whilst the band was at work.

DAVIS James - 1864 - 30/04/1864 – Age 22 - Engineman. Ty Trist Tredegar Iron Co., Tredegar Monmouth. The fly-wheel of the underground engine suddenly flew into pieces one of which smashed into the steam pipe and the poor young man was scalded to death.

A full tub was standing at the bottom of the incline and he went with his brother (who is the onsetter) to get him to assist in bringing it to the bottom and they took out the sprag for that purpose but it started with great violence and he was unable to replace the sprag and the chain struck him against the side wall and killed him.
DAVIS James - 1867 - 21/05/1867 – Age 33 Bailiff Dean Lane, Henry Bennett Bedminster Somerset. The air had become obstructed either by a fall or by the creep and he went in in the dark to ascertain what had happened when a heavy fall came and buried him and it was many hours before they Could get him up. The coal throws off a little gas and when the air does not pass it accumulates. He ought to have been supplied with a lamp.

There was a door in the inset to keep people off and four men were actually sitting there yet the boy went through that door and fell away no doubt miscalculating the distance.

The Engineman supposed the full waggon had been taken out by the Banksman and an empty one put in was lowering the cage below the catches ready to start.

DEAN W. - 1861 - 05/12/1861 – Age 23 - Loader. Pump House J. Bagnall and Sons West Bromwich, Staffordshire. Fall of Coal and slack at the back of the gateroad in a thick coal and pillar pit which accidentally knocked out the timber settings and smothered the deceased.
