IDDEN William - 1869 - 09/06/1869 – Age 26 - Collier. High Brooks, Mercer and Evans, Wigan, Lancashire. Falling into pit.

ILA John - 1862 - 15/04/1862 – Age 26 - Collier. Crump Meadow, Goold and Co., Forest of Dean, Gloucester. Whilst at work at the face nearly for tons of top came down in consequence of a joint intersecting the run of the ground.

ILLINGWORTH James - 1860 - 17/09/1860. Foxholes, Rayner and Co., Wakefield, Yorkshire. Fall of roof in the mine.

ILLINGWORTH John - 1861 - 21/05/1861. Wibsey (ironstone), Low Moor Iron Co., Bradford, Yorkshire. Breaking of a round iron wire pit rope.

ILLINGWORTH John - 1865 - 11/04/1865 – Age 18 - Waggoner. Dunkenhalgh Park, Trustees of the late Joseph Barnes, Church Lancashire. Explosion of firedamp in Mountain mine, Dillhall pit. Gas had accumulated in rise workings became liberated as the water which kept it there was pumped out. It apparently fired at an open light which should have been prohibited when the water was drawn off, All suffocated by after damp. 4 killed.

INGLIS James - 1864 - 11/06/1864 – Age 38 - Collier. Bargeddie No.1, Bargeddie Coal Co., Baillieston, Lanarkshire. Fell off a bunting into the shaft while engaged taking the pumps out of it.

INGLIS James - 1866 - 01/02/1866 – Age 60 - Collier. Glespin, James Swan, Douglas. Squezed by cage. His tub had got off the cage rails and some one pulled the bell while he was lifting it on. The Engineman raised the cage and squeezed him against the door.

INGHAM ? - 1868 - 25/11/1868 – Metalman. Hindley Green, John Scowcroft and Co., Hindley, Lancashire. Explosion of firedamp. 62 killed.

INGRAM David - 1862 - 23/10/1862 – Age 11- Doorboy. Cyfarthfa, William Crawshay, Merthyr, Glamorgan. Fall of roof (No.1 Cethin pit).

INGRAM G - 1865 - 12/09/1865 - Collier. California, Kirkless Hall Coal and Iron Co., Aspull, Wigan, Lancashire. The rope breaking by slipping off the drum as they were ascending the pit. It was a Conical or compensating drum without grooves. 8 killed.

INGRAM M - 1867 - 23/07/1867 – Age 30 - Sinker. Ettingshall, Henry Hill, Bilston, Staffordshire. The biats which supported the scaffold on which they stood snapped and precipitated them to the bottom of the shaft. 2 killed.

INGRHAM R. - 1869 - 26/01/1869 – Stoker. Whitehall, J Kendrick, West Bromwich, Staffordshire. Explosion of winding engine boiler.

INGRHAM S. - 1862 - 28/01/1862 – Age 29 - Collier. Portway Hall, WH Dawes, Oldbury, Worcestershire. Explosion of firedamp on 14th. Died this day.

INMAN Charles - 1863 - 03/01/1863 - Boy. Hostingley, Joshua Ingham, Dewsbury, Yorkshire. Fallof roof in mine.

INMAN Richard - 1862 - 07/08/1862 - Boy. Hostingley, Joshua Ingham, Dewsbury, Yorkshire. Explosion of firedamp. 2 killed.

ION Joseph - 1866 - 25/07/1866 – Age 26 - Miner. Cliviger, Cliviger Co., Burnley, Lancashire. Suffocation from gas from a part of the mine which had taken fire at an underground steam boiler being in this instance sulphuretted hydrogen. It neither extinguished the lights like chokedamp nor exploded like firedamp. 3 killed.

IRVIN George - 1868 - 02/11/1868 – Age 21 - Collier. Victoria, Troughton and Co., Coventry, Warwick. Run over.

IRVING Adam - 1868 - 06/01/1868 – Age 15 - Pony driver. Barleith No.4, John Galloway and Co., Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.  By a kick from the pony he was driving.

IRVING Joseph - 1868 - 04/11/1868 – Age 22 - Hewer. Camerton, Camerton Coal Co., Maryport, Cumberland. Fall of stone.

IRVING Samuel - 1860 - 17/08/1860 - 14 - Drawer. Newtown, Jonathan Lamb, Wigan, Lancashire. Fall of roof.

IRVING William - 1863 - 11/02/1863 – Age 12 - Putter. Black Prince, Weardale Iron Co., Towlaw, Durham. Crushed by underground tubs.

IRWIN George * - 1869 - 29/12/1869 – Age 36. Bewicke Main, Durham.

ISAAC Evan - 1861 - 07/11/1861 – Age 13 - Boy. Mynydd, Maio Owen, Downing and Jones, Natygarw, Glamorgan. Run over on incline. No rules. No notice of accident sent to HM’s Secretary of State. Penalty imposed by magistrates.

ISAAC Howard - 1862 - 25/02/1862 – Age 15 - Collier. Easton, Leonard Boult and Co., Kingswood, Gloucester. Explosion of gunpowder through its incautious use.

ISAAC Lancelot - 1867 - 19/04/1867 – Age 50 - Collier. Cwn, Avon Govenor and Company of Copper Miners, Taibach, Glamorgan. Killed by a fall of coal.

ISAAC William - 1863 - 26/12/1863 – Age 40. Llwynvi, Llwynvi Co., Llwynvi, Glamorgan. Explosion of gas. 15 killed.

ISHERWOOD William - 1868 - 25/11/1868. Hindley Green, John Scowcroft and Co., Hindley, Lancashire. Explosion of firedamp. 62 killed.

ISHERWOOD William - 1868 - 17/06/1868 – Age 45 - Miner. Broadfield, John Speakman, Westleigh, Lancashire. Coal falling on him when at work.

ISLE Thomas - 1861 - 08/03/1861 – Age 21 - Hooker-on. Tividale, Bagnall and Jesson, Tividale, Staffordshire. A piece of Coal fell from an ascending skip.

ISLES Thomas - 1862 - 12/02/1862 – Age 30 - Collier. Jay’s, JJ Whittuck, Kingswood, Gloucester. A fall of roof and rubbish killed Brain and imprisoned Isles and in about 12 hours a second fall took place and deprived the latter of life. Iles was hewing and Brain was showing him the light. Earlier they had put in a shot of gunpowder to blast the Coal with little effect; then Coal fell from high timbers, put up that same evening. Inquest held.

ITSON, Abrah - 1861 - 02/01/1861 - Boy. Oakenshaw, Low Moor Iron Co., Bradford, Yorkshire. Explosion of firedamp. 2 killed.
