GALLOCHER John - 1867 - 02/01/1867 – Age 21 – Stoker. Netherton, No.4, Scott and Gilmour, Wishaw, Lanarkshire. Falling part way down the shaft. Something went wrong with the pumps and instead of sending for the overman one of the engineman went down to repair them taking the deceased with him. He fell off the cage while they were ascending. There was nothing wrong with the cage.

GILBERT W. - 1863 - 18/12/1863 - Age 27 - Engineman. Wingerworth, Messrs. Chambers and Co., Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Bursting of boiler.

GILBERT William - 1863 - 04/09/1863 - Age 26 - Miner. Birch Coppice, Messrs. Shaw and Caldecott, Tamworth, Staffordshire. Thrown out of tram while riding down engine plane.

GILBOY. Patrick - 1869 - 04/06/1869 – Age 27 - Labourer. Woodfield Bolckow, Vaughan and Co., Darlington, Durham. Fell down pit from surface.

GILBRIGHT Martin - 1866 - 13/12/1866. Oaks, Messrs. Firth, Bamber and Co., Barnsley, Yorkshire. Explosions of gas. The total number of victims was 334 by the first explosion of the 12th December 1866 and 26 by the second explosion the following day. Total 360. Seventy five bodies were recovered prior to the shafts being closed forty five were recovered during the first twelve months after the shaft was reopened and seventy during the past years making the total 190. This deducted from 360 leaves 17 bodies still in the Colliery. It is remarkable that all but two have been identified.

GILCHRIST J. - 1867 - 22/08/1867 – Age 28 - Hewer. Cramlington, Lamb Potter and Co., Newcastle-on-Tyne, Northumberland. Broken chain on inclined plane.

GILCHRIST James - 1867 - 25/09/1867 – Age 18 - Assistant Pitheadman. Wellwood No.1, Eglington Iron Co., Cumnock, Lanarkshire. Overbalanced at the pit head and fell into the shaft.

GILCHRIST John - 1864 - 23/07/1864 – Age 64 - Labourer. Fernivare, Fernivare Coal Co., Lanarkshire. Killed by crane handle.

GILES E. - 1862 - 08/08/1862 – Age 19 - Horsedriver. Old Park (ironstone), Lloyds and Fosters, Wednesbury, Staffordshire. The horse accidentally knocked a timber setting out which fell upon the neck of the deceased and killed him.

GILES George - 1866 - 14/07/1866 – Age 61 - Collier. Tredegar, Tredegar Iron Co., Tredegar, Monmouth. Drawing back the Coal in the yard vein some of it fell and though apparently slightly injured died 24th.

GILES J. - 1868 - 29/02/1868 – Age 14 - Horsedriver. New Priestfield (ironstone), W Ward and Sons, Willenhall, Staffordshire. Fall of roof.

GILES James (survivor) - 1862 - 22/11/1862 - Rolleyway Driver. Walker Colliery, NG Lambert and Co., Durham. Explosion of gas 16 killed.

GILES James - 1869 - 02/03/1869 – Age 21 - Miner. Clifton Hall, Andrew Knowles and Sons, Clifton, Lancashire. Roof Coal falling as he was taking out a chock.

GILES T. - 1862 - 17/11/1862 – Age 30 - Pikeman. Rough Hay (ironstone), Addenbrooke and Co., Darlaston, Staffordshire. Fall of the brushing or ironstone measures which he had previously been requested to sprag, a request he disregarded. Death was the sad result of disobedience.

GILGALL John - 1867 - 22/05/1867 – Age 24 - Miner. Farnworth Bridge, Andrew Knowles and Sons, Little Lever, Lancashire. Explosion of firedamp. Died 3rd June. A little gas fired at his candle at a faulty place where the roof had fallen in his place of work.

GILL B. - 1862 - 24/05/1862 – Age 48 - Pikeman. Wallows, Earl of Dudley, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire. Fall of Coal in thick coal. He had not left sufficient spurns in the cutting. He was trying to escape when the fall overtook him.

GILL George - 1866 - 15/11/1866 – Age 46 – Furnaceman. Chanters, John Fletcher and others, Atherton, Lancashire. Crushed by the cage descending whilst he was getting out at the top of the shaft. One more than the allowed number had got in and he was getting out to make it right but the signal to go had been given.

GILL John - 1861 - 26/06/1861 – Age 28 - Collier. Rose Bridge, Messrs. Case and Morris, Wigan, Lancashire. Fall of roof.

GILL Joseph - 1867 - 04/03/1867 – Age 39 – Onsetter. Manor Castle, J Huntsman, Sheffield, Yorkshire. Caught by cage and drawn part way up the shaft.

GILL Robert - 1861 - 06/03/1861- Sinker. Tawd Vale, John Orrell, Skelmersdale, Lancashire. An interruption of water. 2 killed.

GILL William - 1866 24/04/1866 14 - Pony driver. Black Boy Black Boy Coal Co., Bishop Auckland, Durham. Crushed by tubs.

GILLARD Mark - 1861 - 14/09/1861 - Age 13 - Carting - Boy. Hole Lane, Leonard Jefferies and Co., Bristol, Somerset. Leg broken and so injured by falling under the cart that he did not survive long.

GILLESPIE David - 1863 - 13/03/1863 - 15 - Boy. Drummellier (ironstone), William Baird and Co., Denny, Stirling. Fall of roof while engaged holing.

GILLESPIE James - 1869 - 04/06/1869 – Age 15 - Drawer. Alva, James Johnstone, Alloa, Clackmannan Fall of roof at face.

GILLET Alfred - 1864 - 18/07/1864 – Age 17 - Collier. Langley, Butterley Iron Co., Nottinghamshire. Fall of roof (coal).

GILLOTT J. - 1863 - 17/09/1863 – Age 20 - Trammer. Birley Vale, Sheffield, Coal Co., Sheffield, Yorkshire. Fall of roof.

GILLS Isaac - 1866 - 30/11/1866 – Age 15 - Helper-up. Whitworth RS Johnson, and Co., Ferry Hill, Durham. Crushed by tubs.

GILMORE Robert - 1860 - 29/07/1860 – Age 16 - Boy. Garthill, William Baird and Co., Coatbridge, Lanarkshire. Fall of roof.

GILMOUR James - 1868 - 28/12/1868 – Age 16 – Pitheadman. Solesgirth, James Wallace and Co., Kirkintilloch, Dumbarton. Fell down a (sinking) shaft.

GIMLETT William - 1866 - 02/06/1866 – Age 54 - Collier. Abercarn, Ebbw Vale Co., Ltd., Ebbw Vale, Monmouth. Killed by fall of coal whilst wedging it down. It flew out of the face of his stall through double slips.
