CECIL John - 1865 - 11/04/1865 – Age 23 - Hooker-on. Dunkenhalgh Park, Trustees of the late Joseph Barnes, Church, Lancashire. Explosion of firedamp in Mountain mine, Dillhall pit. Gas had accumulated in rise workings became liberated as the water which kept it there was pumped out. It apparently fired at an open light which should have been prohibited when the water was drawn off, All suffocated by after damp. 4 killed.
CENEY John - 1860 - 21/03/1860 – Age 25 - Pikeman. Park Lane, Robert Ceney, Tipton, Staffordshire. Breaking of three eights single link chain considerably worn. They had just got into the skip and their heads were scarcely below the surface when the chain snapped and they fell 35 yards. 3 killed.
CHADDERTON Henry - 1864 - 03/08/1864 – Age 21 - Miner. Holebottom, Leeses, Jones and Co., Oldham, Lancashire. Fall of roof in Little Mine, Nelson pit. They had omitted building the gob walling under roof. 2 killed.
CHADDERTON John - 1862 - 03/01/1862. Oak, Chamber Colliery Co., Hollinwood, Lancashire. Explosion of firedamp in the Lower Bent mine. Gas burst up from the floor of the level. Injured.
CHADDERTON R. - 1861 - 11/11/1861 – Age 37 - Collier. Chadwick Hall, Roscow and Lord, Rochdale, Lancashire. Run over by waggons on the engine brow. Died 17th.

CHADWICK C. - 1862 - 05/08/1862 – Age 15 - Driver. Biddulph Valley, R Heath, Tunstall, Staffordshire. Crushed by a load passing over him.
CHADWICK Edward - 1868 - 29/05/1868 – Age 18 - Miner. Chadwick Hall, Roscow and Lord Rochdale, Lancashire. Burned by explosion of powder. They were charging a hole with an iron scraper when the powder went off about 8lbs besides being fired but it could not be ascertained whether the scraper struck fire at a piece of rock or one of the deceased put his candle into the hole. 2 killed.
CHADWICK J. - 1862 - 05/11/1862 – Age 14 – Tenter. Rowley, Executors of J. Hargreaves, Burnley, Lancashire Crushed by waggon which slipped loose as the endless chain was being adjusted.
CHADWICK James - 1868 - 17/12/1868 – Age 26 - Miner. Woodpark, Leeses and Booth, Bardsley, Lancashire. Collision of waggons. He was pushing an empty tub up a slope when two waggoners with a full tub came down at full speed there being two screens across the road for turning the air which prevented the waggoners seeing or hearing beyond.

CHADWICK S - 1866 - 28/07/1866 – Age 27. Pinnox, HH Williamson, Tunstall, Staffordshire. Explosion of a boiler.
CHALDER Dolphin - 1866 - 21/04/1866 – Age 12 – Trapper. Whitworth, RS Johnson and Co., Ferry Hill, Durham. Crushed by tubs.
CHALK T. - 1864 - 12/04/1864 - Bandsman. Gospel Oak Colliery, Grazebrooks and Aston, Tipton, Staffordshire. Fall of Coal off the side of the gateroad from between two slips in thick Coal, Rib and Pillar pit. It was timbered and spurned.
CHALLANGER Charles - 1866 - 13/12/1866. Oaks, Messrs. Firth, Bamber and Co., Barnsley, Yorkshire. Explosions of gas. The total number of victims was 334 by the first explosion of the 12th December 1866 and 26 by the second explosion the following day. Total 360. Seventy five bodies were recovered prior to the shafts being closed forty five were recovered during the first twelve months after the shaft was reopened and seventy during the past years making the total 190. This deducted from 360 leaves 17 bodies still in the Colliery. It is remarkable that all but two have been identified.
