WILDSMITH Charles - 1862 - 08/12/1862. Edmunds Main, Mitchell and Co., Barnsley, Yorkshire. Explosion of inflammable gas and vapours which were given off by a burning Coal seam. 59 killed.

WILKINS Daniel - 1860 - 01/12/1860 – Age 41. Black Vein, Risca Iron and Coal Co., Risca, Monmouth. Explosion of firedamp. This lamenatble calamity was occasioned by a sudden outburst of gas or most probably, a defective lamp. 142 persons, killed.

WILKINS Henry - 1863 - 17/10/1863. Morfa, Vivian and Sons, Port Talbot, Glamorgan. Explosion, of gas. 39 killed.

WILKINS James - 1869 - 10/06/1869 – Age 13. Ferndale, David Davies and Sons, Pontypridd, Glamorgan. Explosion of gas from a blower. 53 killed.

WILKINSON, Christopher - 1869 - 26/05/1869 – Age 14 - Driver. Seaham, Earl Vane, Sunderland, Durham. Crushed by tubs.

WILKINSON, George - 1864 - 02/12/1864 – Age 12 – Trapper. Eppleton, South Hetton Coal Co., Hetton, Durham. Crushed by tubs.

WILKINSON, George - 1866 - 13/12/1866. Oaks, Messrs. Firth Bamber and Co., Barnsley, Yorkshire. Explosions of gas. The total number of victims was 334 by the first explosion of the 12th December 1866 and 26 by the second explosion the following day. Total 360. Seventy five bodies were recovered prior to the shafts being closed forty five were recovered during the first twelve months after the shaft was reopened and seventy during the past years making the total 190. This deducted from 360 leaves 17 bodies still in the Colliery. It is remarkable that all but two have been identified.

WILKINSON, John B - 1862 - 17/01/1862 – Age 23 - Rolleyway man New Hartley, Messrs Carrs, Seaton Delaval, Durham. Entombment due to breaking of engine beam. 204 killed. Left a pregnant wife and three children.

WILLIAM John - 1863 - 07/04/1863 - Collier. Cwmsychan, Ebbw Vale Co., Abersychan, Monmouth. About 5cwt. of coal rolled off the side where he was at work an so injured him that he died 3 days later.

WILLIAMS Charles - 1861 - 08/03/1861 – Age 43 - Collier. Blaengwawr, David Davies, Llanelly, Carmarthen. Explosion of gas in the workings with naked lights. Inspector had given the owner notice of the necessity of working exclusively with locked safety lamps. 13 killed.

WILLIAMS Charles - 1865 - 23/02/1865 – Age 21 - Drawer. Ewloe Hall, Ewloe Hall Colliery Co., Buckley, Flint. Fall of roof.

WILLIAMS D - 1864 - 29/06/1864 – Age 42 - Pikeman. Newbury Lane, Messrs. Haines and Davis, Oldbury, Worcestershire. Fall of coal in thick coal. He was cutting a spurn out when a ‘bump’ took place and suddenly brought down a heavy fall of coal.

WILLIAMS David - 1861 - 02/03/1861 – Age 26 - Collier. Cwm-Celyn, Levick and Simpson, Blaina, Monmouth. Burned by explosion of firedamp in Big Vein 22nd. Feb. Died this day. Went to the top of a fall with naked flame when he should have taken a safety lamp.

WILLIAMS David - 1864 - 11/02/1864 – Age 17 - Trammer. Techion, Thomas Harris, Llanelly, Carmarthen. Trams fell on him (surface).

WILLIAMS David - 1865 - 03/02/1865 – Age 45 - Onsetter. Varteg, Partridge and Jones, Monmouth. A tram of rubbish had arrived almost at daylight when a piece of stone detached itself and fell down the pit striking him on the head. He certainly ought not to have been standing in the very bottom until the cage rested on the catches and not even then until the tram was moved into the siding.

WILLIAMS Edward - 1863 – 16/09/1863 – Age 19 - Haulier. Troedyrhiw-Clawdd, Ebbw Vale Co., Ebbw Vale Monmouth. In jumping over the rope his foot slipped and he got caught and drawn onto the drum around which he was whirled nine times before it Could be stopped and of Course life was quite extinct when the machinery was brought to rest.

WILLIAMS Edward - 1866 - 27/11/1866 – Age 14 - Doorboy. Bedwellty, Tredegar Iron Co., Tredegar, Monmouth. He was one of those trappers who had to accompany a Haulier and with the wandering habits so acquired he crossed the bottom when the cage was in motion and was crushed by the cage.

WILLIAMS Ellis - 1860 - 21/01/1860 - Banksman. Ruabon, Ruabon Coal Co., Ruabon, Denbigh. He was looking down the pit when the cage descended and struck him on the head.

WILLIAMS G. - 1868 - 30/01/1868 – Age 34 – Bondsman. Corbyn’s Hall, W Beardmore and Co., Kingswinsford, Staffordshire. Fall of coal in thick coal whilst removing timbers.

WILLIAMS George - 1866 - 20/03/1866 – Age 13 - Putter. Kingswood, Kingswood Co. Ltd., Kingswood, Gloucester. Fall of stone in the deep pit. Two other boys were with him and whilst the men were fetting something to eat the three children went in by where they had no business to be and went to sleep and were only aroused by the fall that killed their companion.

WILLIAMS Herbert - 1865 - 08/02/1865 – Age 43 – Overman. Blaenavon, Blaenavon Iron Co., Blaenavon, Monmouth. On 3rd Feb a tram underground was loaded with iron rails for the use in the colliery and one of them projected too far unfortunately touched the horse which caused him to take fright and run. The overman tried to stop it but was overwhelmed by horse and tram and received injuries which rendered amputation necessary. He died 9th.
