A waggon horse walked into the pit, and fell heavily upon the skip in which they were descending and snapped the band chain. A permanent fence would have prevented this accident. 6 killed.

ROUND W. - 1869 - 04/09/1869 – Age 33 - Sinker. Wednesfield, Heath J Round and Co., Wolverhampton, Staffordshire. He was the owners Son, and was engaged cleaning the sump when a piece of coal fell out of the side of the shaft and killed him on the spot. His father had examined the shaft himself within a few minutes of the accident.
