EVANS E. - 1861 - 22/04/1861 – Age 26 - Pikeman. Groveland, J. Bagnall and Sons, Rowley Regis, Staffordshire. Fall of Coal in new mine. He neglected to sprag and spurn the Coal whilst holing (breach of special rule 28).

EVANS E. - 1869 - 30/09/1869 - Collier. Oakwood, W Davies, Bridgend, Glamorgan. Killed by rope breaking owing, I think, to the sheave or pulley being too small.

EVANS Edward - 1863 - 09/12/1863 – Age 40 - Collier. Wynnstay, A New British Iron Co., Ruabon, Flint. Explosion of gas. 13 killed.

The total number of victims was 334 by the first explosion of the 12th December 1866 and 26 by the second explosion the following day. Total 360. Seventy five bodies were recovered prior to the shafts being closed forty five were recovered during the first twelve months after the shaft was reopened and seventy during the past years making the total 190. This deducted from 360 leaves 17 bodies still in the Colliery. It is remarkable that all but two have been identified.

EVANS James - 1866 - 08/02/1866 – Age 52 - Collier. Hirwain Colliery, Hirwain Aberdare Steam Coal Co., Aberdare, Glamorgan. Supposed to have taken a fit and fell and injured his skull and died from the effects.

EVANS James - 1868 - 29/06/1868 – Age 14 - Doorboy. Yneisfio colliery, Troedyrhiw Coal Co., Pontypridd, Glamorgan. Killed by trams.

EVANS James - 1869 - 25/09/1869 – Age 28 - Engineer. Mosley Common, Bridgewater Trust, Tyldesley, Lancashire. The winding drum came out of gear as they were descending the pumping pit. It would appear that the Engineer omitted to put it in the stop block. 2 killed.

EVANS John - 1863 - 04/02/1863 - Boy. Low Elsecar, Earl Fitzwilliam, Rotherham, Yorkshire. Fall of Coal in the mine.

EVANS John - 1863 - 26/01/1863 – Age 30 - Collier. Cwntillery, John Russell, Abertillery, Monmouth. Heavy fall of Coal. They had neither cropped their work nor timbered it up. With a top so smooth on its surface they were not safe a moment without cropping. 2 killed.

EVANS John - 1864 - 18/04/1864 – Age 15 - Labourer. Bromfield, Bromfield Hall Co., Mold, Flint. He had his leg broken by a tram and died of the effects.

EVANS John - 1866 - 14/12/1866 – Age 17 - Miner. Tredegar (ironstone), Tredegar Iron Co., Tredegar, Monmouth. Went down the Globe pit with 6 others and got out in the dark knowing the shaft bottom but he was unacquainted with it and lingered in the cage which began to ascend when he jumped out and was killed. The Banksman was to blame as he did not give a signal and the hitcher was without excuse for not being present to receive the people.

EVANS John - 1867 - 02/05/1867 - Collier. Lower Duffryn, Powell’s Duffryn Steam Coal Co., Aberdare, Glamorgan. Explosion of gas through firing a shot. 2 others seriously hurt. Died 2 days later. 3 killed.

EVANS John - 1867 - 20/03/1867 – Age 35 - Collier. Graig, Graig Coal Co., Merthyr, Glamorgan. Explosion of gunpowder. The pricker broke and he was boring it out and fired the powder.

EVANS Jonas - 1862 - 10/01/1862 – Age 39 - Collier. Engine Hill, Evans and Co., Paulton, Somerset. Got into cage whilst in motion and was crushed between it and the side of the pit and then fell 40 yards further down to another inset. The onsetter committed an error in signalling and thus occasioned his own brother’s death.

EVANS T - 1864 - 12/07/1864 – Age 14 - Collier. Eagle, Messrs. Cleaton, Great Bridge, Staffordshire. Overwinding. A key belonging to a crank of the valve-gear fell out whilst the boys were ascending the pit shaft which deprived the engine-man of all Control of the engine. 3 killed one injured.

EVANS Thomas - 1861 - 12/12/1861 – Age 15- Doorboy. Coalbrookvale, Levick and Simpson, Blaina, Monmouth. Left his door to ride on the Hitchings of the trams. No doubt to talk to a Haulier when he suddenly fell under and was crushed to death. If he had minded his own employment he might have been alive at this moment.

Entered the cage at the bottom of the shaft before the tram was removed from cage at top when a piece of shale fell from it and killed him. He should have waited for the signal.
