William Fletcher Was Killed 1850 Butterley Park Colliery Roof Fall

Hello,
I wondered whether there was any further information about the Roof Fall at Butterley Park Colliery on 21st December 1850 as I believe one of my ancestors - William Fletcher - was killed and I wanted to find out more about his working life in the mines and the accident.

If you have any other details or can point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

Thanks very much

kind regards

I Am A Descendent Of John Thorpe Who Fell Out Of A Sinkers Hoppit At Shirland Colliery, Derbyshire, 1866

Hi
I am a descendent of John Thorpe and have stumbled upon his death which is documented on your website. I can confirm that John was actually 45 when he died on Christmas Day 1866.

It seems he was no stranger to tragedy, his wife Elizabeth having died a couple of years before him aged 43 and just one year after his death his youngest son Joseph died aged 22 leaving my great great grandfather also John, with no living relatives.

I am so pleased to have found something that memorialises him and would appreciate it if you could amend the age.

Also if you have any more details regarding john I would love to hear them

Many thanks
Jane

Stephen (Steven) Edwards - Kellingley Colliery, West Yorkshire - 1986ish - A Coal Cutting Machine Fell On Him (I Believe)

Dear Sir,
I was reading with great sadness the deaths of all those miners on your website and I would be grateful if you could possibly add another name to your list. I am unsure about the details though I'm hoping you might know more..

Stephen (steven) Edwards…. Kellingley Colliery……1986ish……Coal Cutting machine fell on him (I believe)

Lived in Pontefract, West yorkshire

He was one of the mines rescue team at the time but he himself needed rescuing and died of his injuries.

He was only about 28 when he passed away, really sad loss for his family and friends.

Best wishes

John Wood

Alans Data Base - Robert Corbett died of a head injury sustained at Hucknall, 1910

I am researching my family and have attached a copy of a death certificate that might interest you.
It says Robert Corbett died of a head injury sustained at the mine.
Hope it might be of some help to you.

Regards Elizabeth Corbett.

My Grandfather Frederick George Strange was killed in Gedling Colliery in August 1942

My paternal Grandfather, Frederick George Strange, was killed in Gedling Colliery in August 1942. I stumbled upon this entirely by accident recently, I know he is buried in Carlton cemetery with his late wife. My father who died in 1992 never spoke of this matter, he was not a person to dwell on the past but it almost certainly would have affected him deeply as he was only 13 at the time of the death of his father.

I would like to try to find out more, do you have any suggestions as to where I start as I keep going round in circles! Also, do you have a list of the names on the Gedling memorial as it would be lovely to know his life and death did not go unnoticed. I live in Greece so I am unable to go to the memorial myself. But will certainly check it out next time I'm over.

Thank you in anticipation

George Hobson Froggatt, Yorkshire Should be George Hodgson Froggatt

Hi,
I noticed a surname of a relative on your website and I believe the name should read George Hodgson FROGGATT (not George Hobson Froggatt). He was involved in a disaster at Dinnington. Just thought I'd pass it on.
Best wishes,
Jane Concha

Thank you for the correction Jane, second correction tonight, I am afraid I do make mistakes and I just do not see them!

Fatalities list of Leicestershire Coalfield P2 - John Skinner, Nailstone Pit - date should be 1865 not 1965

Alan
Sorry for being so pedantic but noticed in Fatalities list of Leicestershire Coalfield P2 that 'John Skinner, Nailstone Pit, Fell down the shaft sinking' date should be 1865 not 1965.

Also 'Thomas Bird' date should be 1865 and entries for 'Thomas Bird and William Siddon' are shown twice.

Can youto the Database – Is something wrong or missing? ???

(I spent too much time as a writer and editor of standards and can spot little errors from ten paces - I promise I won't look for anymore)
