My father, Bernard Shaw, started off his working life as an apprentice saddler (following his grandfathers footsteps) at New Hucknall Pit.

Hi. My name is Stephanie and I have recently been clearing out my parents house. My father died in 2005 and my mother last February. My father, Bernard Shaw, started off his working life as an apprentice saddler (following his grandfathers footsteps) at New Hucknall Pit. When that closed down he went on to be a Forman at the Blackwell Cable repair shops. Whilst he was at New Hucknall he trained in Fire Rescue, going on to win medals etc. We have lots of good photos of him and others doing the mock rescues, getting presented with their medals and group shots. Also we have come across a ledger from 1927 of wages paid out at Blackwell Colliery (not sure if it was 'A' of 'B' Winning) We would love someone to put them on a web site as I am sure they would be of great interest. If you would be interested in seeing them for your site would you please let me know. We are in Huthwaite, near Sutton-in-Ashfield.

My dad would have been over the moon knowing he was to have a web page dedicated to him, he was a lover of modern technology. He would have been 83 if he was alive and no doubt would have had an iPad.

Best regards
Stephanie Townsend
